Brian, I'm still planning on bringing the Red Racer down as long as work doesn't put a kink in things. Some of the others are wanting to come down as well, they've just got to see how things work out. I hope the heat subsides some before then. I know of two tracks in our area that have already canceled for this weekend due to the heat.

The tail section looks good, you will stand out in the crowd with that color.

The very reason I picked that date was for the heat to be down by the time we get there. We used that weekend at Lawton in 2009, and it cooled great , just in time.

I noticed today we have made the peak in temps, it looks like the spike will be coming down. But still , my bet is a high of 95 degrees when we get to Sept 3. We'll see.

Everything is still on course and looking good here.

The Red Racer is ready for some Southern Oklahoma Dirt Racing. Come on out Sept. 3rd and see the vintage coupes and supers at Lake Country Speedway near Ardmore!

Brian, I've noticed on the LCS website that they are requiring mufflers or inserts. Will that be required for the vintage cars on the 3rd?

I'll need to check into that. Ordinarily vintage cars don't seem to be required at most tracks to do so, but these people are new to owning a track.

Don't buy any just yet, I'll check into it first.

I wasn't going to buy any. I would have to fix my headers if I did as I don't have any collectors at this time.

Thanks

I'm still trying to get in touch with the track promoter. They tell me he's available at 9am, so I'll try tomorrow.

Got in touch with the tech-man at the race track. He has to confirm it with the track owner, but the tech man's position is 'no' mufflers required for the vintage cars.

That being said, we still have to wait on the Chief's verdict, but I'm pretty sure we'll be okay.

I'll update as soon as I get more info.

Thanks Brian, looks like I will be able to attend unless work schedules an unexpected Saturday (I don't think they will with the holiday).

Brian,

I contacted Vintage Oval Magazine and they would be happy to publish this event. I will bring my camera and notebook to document this event.

I'm getting the 98 ready.

Sounds good Dan. This can be a big help to vintage racing in the area. Looking forward to meeting the vintage racers from the different areas.

Just checked in to the National weather service.

Temperature seems to be falling earlier. 6 degrees cooler now than it was last week , at this time in the afternoon.

I called a few of you to see about what to do about the heat, yet all indications today seem to be good.

Have yet to get anybody on the phone about a 'heat postponement'. So as of now, the show is still on for sept. 3. After that they have a 'Winternationals' and then it looks like they'll close for the year to finish renovations for next year, just as they scheduled when they bought the track mid-summer.

notice- This is only pilot project to get in with a nice track in a great location. If the heat is an issue, no hard feelings if you sit this one out should we go ahead and be there sept. 3.

Updates as soon as possible

As it stands right now, the Red Racer 9 and I will be there. Some of the rest of the gang may be able to make it as well.

Brian,

I'm assuming that you will be the first one there. Ask the track if we can have an area for our cars in the pits so we can be togther. It helps with the tire kicking...

I can be there as early as you need me the entire day is open.

Be there at 6:00 pm if you wish to display.

The display area will be up by the grandstands. The choice spot I want is at the 'northwest corner of the pits', just as you turn to go to the stands(there is a gate to the pits right behind that very spot). There will be 2 lanes--if your car can move under its own power, I'd suggest going into the pits and taking the car up to the display area. If your car cannot move under its own power, bring it in close, and I'll help you unload it--AND BE SURE TO HIT ME UP WHEN YOU NEED HELP TO RELOAD IT, no need in getting hurt or frustrated.

On track time- Races begin at 8pm, yet there still is no confirmation on when we actually take to the surface. I will be looking for a minimum of 10 laps for one hat lap session before the trophy dashes. I'll be working from there.

A few things

1. My gamble on the weather looks like it's going to pay off. This Saturday the forecasted high is at 96 degrees, which means at the time we're there, it should be a bit cooler.

2. This is only a pilot show to build a relationship between us and the track---They may not entirely understand us, BUT THEY'LL LOVE US! Let's have fun and let the dreams for next year at this track, in regards to us, do as they do. It's an excellent location in the region, just off I-35, halfway between OkC and DFW.

3. If you come into town earlier in the day, there will be a nostalgia drag racing show north of Ardmore several miles on hiway 77 (just south of Springer). Lots of eye candy there if you like all american, nostalgic cars in general.

I'll be adding more in next two days.

Okay here's one to ponder

I have no idea where they are measuring their temps at, airport tarmac maybe?

But right now it's 5 degrees cooler here than what the temp is on this link

We are at 98, and they are saying we're at 104! I don't know where they measure at, but it must be hotter there.

So....if we are expected to be at 96 degrees Saturday on this link, as of this moment, then that could mean we'll be closer to 90 degrees where we're at come saturday?

All I know is, the 'edge' came off the heat on this weekend in 2009, and seems to me it did last year too. This is one of those weekends that stay on my radar when it comes to putting something together, whether or not it's Labor Day (that is a simple coincidence), I look for a couple of other things, and weather patterns factor in.
