Does anyone know if LCS is a short or long 3/8 mile track? This will help on what gear to run.

Thanks

Bruce

LCS looks to me like it's a long 3/8. A little more bank and sweep in the turns than the Tulsa track that closed down a few years ago.

Dan and Brian, Thanks for the info.

Just an update, I'm still planning on coming down your way on the 3rd and some of my running buddies are looking at making the trip as well. We will have to see how things are going as the date gets closer.

Thanks again

And now for the secret I've been holding out

The reason I picked this weekend in particular, is the heat should have it's edge off by night time. Also there is this- There is a huge vintage drag racing meet just up the road near Springer, about 10 miles north on highway 77. This event draws 2-300 cars each year so far, and it is known nationwide. The idea is to give a person from out of town a choice of vintage dirt, or vintage drag -on either side of town. I am not worried about taking away from anything they do , since they are way too strong to worry about us. "IF" this did takeoff and work, then it could make Ardmore area a destination for fans like us, and give a wide spectrum of choices for the old school gearhead.

I won't ask this year, but I know they have been wanting some of us to come in and display our cars at the dragstrip. The people are very nice, I've known them all my life.

I know that most of you could care less about vintage/nostalgic drag racing, but there are a lot simularities in tastes, and in the end I think they could help the drawing power of each other.

They are in no way affiliated with the event at LCS, but they are in town the same weekend

Here's the link to their post on the HAMB

They love old dirt track cars too!

This is only an effort to tap into the energy going on in this area that weekend.

now onto this

I am now offering ten (10) $50 gas cards(one each) to the cars that actually show, from the furthest distance. I have been wanting to do something like this on some level for quite some time , and now I can do at least this. It's not much, but it could take some of the sting out of the gas cost.

You have to show up with a car, display or on track- and if you don't get yer money, you can take parts of my personal car to make up for it. I'd much rather you get the money.

This offer is binding-rain or shine, yes that's right. Even if it rains, the ten cars that came from the furthest distance will still get one $50 gas card each. I have the money set aside, have options in case anything goes wrong. I'll even scrap my old ford van if I have to.

Here's a picture of Roy and his 33 Plymouth modified converted to a rat rod. When he can. he goes with us and uses the 33 car as our pace car. I enjoy his pictures and his stories. He's a pretty cool guy. He lives in the NW Ark. area.

The car that stands out to me that Roy drove at Mohawk was 59/60 #17 Plymouth or Dodge with the fins. He later drove a 66/68 Belvedere type Mopar product.

Dirt and Drags, sounds like a great weekend!!!!

Chad, one of the guys I race with just posted on facebook a pic of the 34 Chevy sedan that will be on the track before the end of the season. This body was one of Jr Horton's old cars from Monet, MO.

Guess I'm partial to 33-34 Chevies. That is a sweet layout for a sedan. We have an old 33 grille out back, and I'd put it on the ol 26, but Dad would nail me for it!

I can tell by the lines of that car, it's going to be popular.

Is he going back with the old colors and number style?

Brian, last I heard (we were at Salina Highbanks Speedway tonight watching the NCRA Sportmods) the 98 car will look like this until this winter, then it will be taken apart and painted. Just ignore the mag and aluminum wheels, it will have steel on it when it hits the track. The car will be running a 250 Chevy inline 6, 3-speed manual, wide 5's, and a quick change rear.

Talk about Jalopy Heaven!!!! They're just waiting their turn. The 34 Ford in the forefront will not be restored, it's still like it was when it was pulled from the weeds years ago (just a little extra rust) and people just just love to see this car (it will steal the thunder from the restored cars). The 34 Ford coupe is getting a flathead maybe this winter, the two sedans (34 Ford, 33 Chevy) are waiting in the wings.

I forgot to add a pic of my 35 Ford Coupe. This car was found in Atoka, OK behind a body shop several years ago. We don't know much about it, but it had a flathead six and the car number is 101. The front frame was removed to fix another car (the rear frame was rusted out). I've got another frame for it and a hood and grill from a 36 Ford.

Bruce,

It looks like you have some collection of vintage racing iron. See you on the 3rd.

Dan, the Jalopy Heaven picture is of the cars that my buddy Andy owns. The 35 Ford is mine, we had started building a frame for it when we found the 37 Chevy (that's one reason the 37 is running a Ford engine, it's what I had for the 35) and that frame is under the 34 Chevy sedan (#98) that is in some of the earlier posts.

How many cars are on the list to be there so far?

Several years ago I'm not so sure I didn't see the #6 going across 244 in Tulsa on a goose neck flat bed trailer with 3 other race cars. I maybe wrong, this might have been in the 1990's. It was going east toward Joplin. I definitely do double takes when I use to see stuff like that on the highways.

I'm guessing there is still skid marks in downtown Medford Oklahoma when I seen that supermodified just setting there at the mower shop.

We've stalled at around ten altogether. But I'm not trying to break any records either. The point is to establish a mutual goodwill with us and the track owners. If it works well, then I'll look at a 2nd annual show next year. If it doesn't, I'm out of options for anything between Red River and OkC.

The dogs ran off this morning, forcing me to get up on my day off, before 7:00! We found them fairly quick, so's I mosey out to looks at the tail section I had been wanting to paint, just waiting to get up the nerve. Glad I did.

Brian, I'm still planning on bringing the Red Racer down as long as work doesn't put a kink in things. Some of the others are wanting to come down as well, they've just got to see how things work out. I hope the heat subsides some before then. I know of two tracks in our area that have already canceled for this weekend due to the heat.

The tail section looks good, you will stand out in the crowd with that color.
