Handy Promotions really destroyed the Gold Cup and pretty much anything they touch!

I hope the new promoter at Chico can rebound... and ASCS is not the answer... stick with 410's, KoW and WoO.... 410's pack the grandstands... not support class 360's.

Thankfully, Handy is out at Chico and Dennis Gage is in. Hopefully, Gage can turn the track around and makes things better, unlike last year, when races were rained out on Tuesdays and an average of 20 410's showed up on a Friday night.

Handy is only "promoting" at Placerville this year and his first order of business was to cancel the one King of the West Series show. Last year, GSC had 3 shows at P'ville and they were all capacity crowds. This year, new ownership takes over the series, and Handy cuts the 3 shows down to 1 and then just recently that date was dropped from the schedule. A good promoter gives fans what they want and it's obvious that Placerville fans want to see the Kaedings, Allard, Suggs, Larson, etc. Too bad the fans will have to go to Marysville, Chico or someplace else to see those drivers this year.

Since I haven't posted in awhile I thought I would throw my 1 cent out there. Since it's not quite 2. Tell me what this new promoter has done to get more than 20 cars at Chico? I will be surprised to see anything improved as far as car counts. Where are the cars going to come from? Also on the King of the West series, I am sure Placerville is just as full when Civil War is there. And you aren't going to be seeing Larson that often locally because his national midget ride and he chooses to run Ocean and the Taco Bravo series. Who even knows if this King of the West series is going to be any different than the old show, other than how its run by someone with $$$ in his pockets. Or maybe it has already fallen apart as you can't even get to their website. I'm sure Gold Cup will be a points show for the circus. Does it really matter if it is $50k to win? It just seems to go in the hands of one of the WoO anyways. I'm sure 90% of the locals that ran Gold Cup didn't think they would win that $50k anyways. Unless racers egos really are bigger than I thought. Regardless of what happens it should be interesting to see what happens this year with 410 racing in Nor Cal. I'll just sit back and watch. Popcorn anybody?

Are you kidding?? With 12-16 sprint cars a week they hardly pack the stands...in fact I would bet most of time the stands were only 25% full.

How many 410s do you really think Chico is going to have this year??? I predict about 12 per night. The only reason KoW is going to get cars is because they are buying the drivers to get there offering more money. The days of sprint cars being the main show is over...EVERYONE PAYS THE SAME PIT FEE WHETHER YOU DRIVE A BOMBER OR A 410...

As far as the Gold Cup...whether its 50k or 10k to win...do you really think more locals come out cause its 50,000 to win?? How many locals really have even a chance to win...2 or 3? And if you really think they have a chance...look at the past 10 winners and tell me how many locals have even finished in the top 10...Out of 100 finishers...I am guessing that number is probably 25. You will see the same Outlaws regardless of the payout.

Your logic is pretty weak regarding locals not contending for the 50k so a purse drop doesn't matter. Sure they may be shooting more for top 10-15, but running in the top 10 at a 50k to win show pays a whole hell of a lot more than the top 10 in a 10k to win show. You have to remember that the purse doesn't end with the winner, the changes are felt all the way through the field.

The Gold Cup is (or was?) the West Coast's biggest and most prestigious event. The purse has everything to do with that. Changing the format is a hit but making it two regular shows makes it just that, a regular show. This feels just like the next step of the 410s slow death in CA....

The ticket prices for the gold cup just became unreasonable if you ask me!(not that anybody asked me wink) Tickets for the week of the Gold Cup are $20 for Wed, $40 for Thurs, $40 for Fri, and $50 for Sat. Those are the same prices from last year when the G.C. payed $50 grand to win. I was already not happy about paying $40 for the USAC/Narc series deal on Thurs and now I'm disappointed about the WoO portion not having a above average payout. I already have tickets for the week so I will be there but I will definitely take a wait and attitude for next year.

If the Gold Cup is only 10k to win, rename this event. Your doing this event no justice. This race once used to mean something.

Actually if you look at the purse spread for the past Gold Cups, the payout past 3rd place was pretty sad. Haud finished 4th and took home $4,700. I dont like top heavy purse structures, they do nothing to add car count. If you took that loot and spread it back you would reward the guys that show up to put a show on for the fans and thats what this sport should be all about. For a big race the Gold Cup never impressed me with its Saturday night pay structure and I would think most race teams would agree (I have asked some and it was unanimous). When you consider all the torn up equipment and expenses that these teams have at Gold Cup its a wonder how anyone out of the top 5 managed to race without breaking the bank completely. Just my two cents and well you know what thats worth...

In my opinion based on a fan in the stands experience, there is no compare to the prestige and racing quality of the Trophy Cup at Tulare. Its just on a whole different level of intensity. No right minded fan would give two shits about the cars being 360's either cause the on track action is unmatched.

Definitely agree with you there, Gold Cup is usually a great show, but Trophy Cup is on a whole different level. Best race of the year out here by far.

The Saturday night Gold Cup never impressed you much, guess I know what your two scents are worth... Take that to the trophy cup.... Id rank a trophy cup win right up there with a Gold Cup win... You serious. Would TK gladly hand over the Trophy Cup win for a Gold Cup win, I think thats a no brainer. Over 100 plus 410s in the pits on a Saturday night for a Gold Cup does suck....

You are talking about a big tradition when talking about the Gold Cup...

What are our other options during the time of the year when trophy cup is being held? Maybe that has to do with how many fans are in the stands. That and its pretty close to the end of the racing season out here

I also dont want to take away from the Gold Cup as I think its a great event with great history. I just feel some tweaking of the event would lend itself to a much greater racer/fan experience. I dont want to see it slowly die off.

What part of what I wrote is confusing? Here I will paste it again for you since the meaning of what I wrote was apparently lost the first time "For a big race the Gold Cup never impressed me with its Saturday night pay structure..." In other words when you take the hype out of the big payout for the winner its not really a great payback through the field. Oh and another thing, the Trophy Cup has been the best winged race out here in California for years now. Passing is racing and thats what you get at the Trophy Cup. As for car count, Gold Cup wasnt even close to 100 cars last year not even near it. If the Trophy Cup didnt have to cap its entries due to time constrants there would be well over 100 cars each year, I have no doubt whatsoever.

It has everything to do with a GREAT format nothing else. Have you not attended a Trophy Cup before?? When is the last time anybody has won a Gold Cup from say 10th back? Im not trying to say Gold Cup is bad cause believe me I love the event but in terms of overall value and fan experience you cant top the Trophy Cup action. Respectfully my opinion...

Confusing,,, not when dealing with your logic... DID YOU SAY BIG RACE? Did the Gold Cup used to be considered one of the top three races in the COUNTRY to win? How many Trophy Cups have I been to? Many... Been to more Gold Cups.... Just cause you dont have over 100 cars last year, you throw the Gold Cup under the bus for the trophy cup... Did someone say format is everything? I guess you dont get passing points at Gold Cup and starting up front in a BIG race doesnt makes much scence...

You dont get it. I know I am not alone in my "logic" as you put it. Your a little jumpy there with your comment about me throwing the gold cup under the bus. I stand by what I wrote and again I suggest you reread it but this time I suggest you slow down and attempt some comprehension, you might just find your the one wayyy off base.
