Jack Dover was slated to start 20th. Larson was supposed to start 22nd right behind him. Dover didn't make the start. Larson slid forward two spots into Dover's spot.

Do I think Larson is the best sprint car driver right now? Yeah, he's dominate. That said, I can't see any way that he should have been gifted the extra points. He was literally gifted a pass of Pittman before the race started.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to reshuffle the backend and slide everyone up one spot after Dover didn't make the start?

Yeah, really gifted point by passing 15+ cars. Some place cross over, some don't.

What does how many cars he passes have to do with it?

They say if you have your choice to be good or be lucky, choose lucky.

As long as the rule is set before the race, it's fair for everyone. If a car on the other side didn't make it out, some other racer would have benefited. In a perfect world, you might reshuffle every car in order behind a car that doesn't make the call. Reality is, during the racing program it's got to be a lost easier to just have the cars behind move straight forward.

If the rule is that they don't crossover and it's written down somewhere that makes total sense, but in a format like this where you're running for points to earn your spot on Saturday night it's just a lame rule that ought be changed for future events. I would think that convenience shouldn't come into play when this is the most important sprint car event of the year.

Have to think this is a Knoxville track rule and it has been consistent this week - feel like there was something that happened in a heat Wednesday where a driver went to the back or was penalized and instead of crossing over, they just moved that specific row up.

Don't think it will matter because NASCAR qualifing is Saturday from 5:00-7:00 at night/evening..Thinking he will have to be there to qualify for Sunday's race..

harsh response to you...i agree...but don't make an issue out of a guy gaining 2 spots.  seems like a drop in the bucket to me and not a hill anybody should want to die on unless they really have a problem with kyle larson for some reason.

good to see the conversation about his weekend.  i was curious how he plans to swing this too.  he almost had to qualify for the a off the bat to give himself as much time as possible to travel out there from richmond.

does anybody think he's extending himself too much?  i defended him during pa speedweek when people said he had a bad week despite running 2nd...and to brent marks of all people who proved himself to be on fire the rest of july.  he's a victim of his own sucess when it comes to the expecations we started to set.  he has only 1 nascar win this year...which is kind of hard to believe...and the wins haven't been coming as fast in the other disciplines as well.  it sounds like he might have just flat out messed up in the braking zone at indy when he wiped out ty dillon.

at the end of july...he raced at port royal wednesday night, had a celebrity go-kart race in philly most of the day friday, got out to williams grove somehow during rush hour for the outlaw race friday night, practiced/qualified at pocono saturday afternoon, raced again at williams grove saturday night, then raced at pocono sunday afternoon.  that's like one of my weekends except i'm not strapping into race cars and having to perform at a high level.

i don't blame him for trying to take advantage of his success especially since he has experienced losing everything.  he could win knoxville this weekend and turn it in on the nascar playoffs to win back to back championships.  you do wonder though at what point he has a little too much on his plate and it's starting to impact his performace.

He will make the trip without too much of a problem.  He will have enough time to get to knoxville for the a main.  He wouldn't have raced last night if he didn't.

If the top 3 starters are involved in a mishap on the first lap, the same rules would apply for the racers behind when they lined up for a restart. Some lucky guy would pick up 2 spots, maybe 3 without passing anyone. This is grassroots sprint car racing, not Formula 1. Rules like this just need to be simple and fair. I'd hate to see ared thrown so the officials, the teams and their lawyers could go over the restart lineup. KISS method is applied.

If you want to talk luck it can start with the pill draw. Check out the those who were in the top 5 each night and when they timed in.

Oh hey! Here's a freshly minted new conspiracy theory. Remember, you read it here first. NASCAR purposely scheduled this race against the Knoxville Nationals so that they wouldn't have their star driver diverting attention to away from NASCAR! Of course, the whole plan backfired when Larsen got the 2 bonus points. I guess there's only so many things that NASCAR can control at once. wink

Saturday of the Kings Royal - they started around 5 due to weather coming in.   They just got the track reworked.  Larson shows up with minutes to spare.

Are you upset because he passed the most cars last night and put it in the show for Saturday?  That car was on rails in the feature!  You don't get gifts at the Nationals very often so he took advantage of it.

Upset?

I pointed it out up above. I'll do it again. I think he's currently the best at this sprint car thing. I give him all the credit. Even if you don't factor in the two free spots he was still hard charger by a large margin.

It seemed wrong when I noticed it. It still seems wrong. I didn't know the rules, now I do. I don't agree with them, but it's certainly not Larson's fault.

Sometimes you get lucky along with being great at racing!  He is the best racecar driver these eyes have seen over the last 40 years.  I am talking being able to win in whatever he drives.

Either way it doesn't make a dang bit of difference realistically.   He would have finished in about the same spot last night either way.  It won't make a difference in whether or not he wins Saturday.   Nothing to see here people.   Find something else to gripe about concerning the Nationals...

Of course! It only makes sense if passing points are involved that you crossover, not slide rows. Else you just gifted a guy 2 points before the green flag even drops. That's common sense. Many people on here don't have any if they can't see that simple point.
