Jack Dover was slated to start 20th. Larson was supposed to start 22nd right behind him. Dover didn't make the start. Larson slid forward two spots into Dover's spot.

Do I think Larson is the best sprint car driver right now? Yeah, he's dominate. That said, I can't see any way that he should have been gifted the extra points. He was literally gifted a pass of Pittman before the race started.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to reshuffle the backend and slide everyone up one spot after Dover didn't make the start?

Actually we'll never know if he was gifted 2 points or not. The format provides points for finishing poistion. He finished 5th, so he earned 190 points for the A main. No passing points. Did it help him to start a row up, sure. Can we determine he woudn't have gotten to 5th without starting there, nope.

Nothing to see here, put the crayons away.

Thankfully FORD97 is here. In my younger years, I would have donned the internet armor and went to battle, sword swinging, but I feel like we're aligned on most things and can sit back and wait for you to clean house. It's enjoyable, TBH.

What does how many cars he passes have to do with it?

This is the way Knoxville and as far as I know WOO have always adjusted line up.  Why worry about it?

If you want to talk luck it can start with the pill draw. Check out the those who were in the top 5 each night and when they timed in.

There is so much luck involved starting with pill  draw  Track was so good that cars were on rails in heats and TT.  If you  started in heat on first row you probably would make A main.  If you started in 4 th row, good luck.  Bad luck for another driver ends out to be good luck for you.

harsh response to you...i agree...but don't make an issue out of a guy gaining 2 spots.  seems like a drop in the bucket to me and not a hill anybody should want to die on unless they really have a problem with kyle larson for some reason.

good to see the conversation about his weekend.  i was curious how he plans to swing this too.  he almost had to qualify for the a off the bat to give himself as much time as possible to travel out there from richmond.

does anybody think he's extending himself too much?  i defended him during pa speedweek when people said he had a bad week despite running 2nd...and to brent marks of all people who proved himself to be on fire the rest of july.  he's a victim of his own sucess when it comes to the expecations we started to set.  he has only 1 nascar win this year...which is kind of hard to believe...and the wins haven't been coming as fast in the other disciplines as well.  it sounds like he might have just flat out messed up in the braking zone at indy when he wiped out ty dillon.

at the end of july...he raced at port royal wednesday night, had a celebrity go-kart race in philly most of the day friday, got out to williams grove somehow during rush hour for the outlaw race friday night, practiced/qualified at pocono saturday afternoon, raced again at williams grove saturday night, then raced at pocono sunday afternoon.  that's like one of my weekends except i'm not strapping into race cars and having to perform at a high level.

i don't blame him for trying to take advantage of his success especially since he has experienced losing everything.  he could win knoxville this weekend and turn it in on the nascar playoffs to win back to back championships.  you do wonder though at what point he has a little too much on his plate and it's starting to impact his performace.

This is one of the best responses I have seen.

I did not realize this could be an issue, but now I think it is possible.

And I am the biggest Larson fan and supporter you will see.

I don't understand the attuude I'm getting. I would say I'm fairly new to being a sprint car fan. I went to Eldora three years ago for the Kings Royal. I went to the Nationals last year. I grew up in western PA and went to Marion Center, Lernerville, and Bedford a lot when I was kid. I got away from racing living in Washington state until about 5 years ago.

I didn't know the rule. I get it now. I think there's a legitimate argument against it, but I have faith in the folks that run the show in Knoxville to stick their rules and get it right. If the thread title makes you think I have a beef against Larson you're wrong. I think he's the best in the game.

If you are in the know and you come across someone that doesn't, well, I guess you get to decide how to handle that situation. I don't know you, Ford. No idea why you would choose to respond to anyone as you consistnely do.  This isn't a first time. You talk down to others a lot.

Best to you going forward and hope you enjoy the Nationals this year. Perhaps our paths will cross there in a few years when I return. I just signed a two year contract teaching on the other side of the planet. I might make it to Warrnambool in Australia during this time if I can, but I won't be in Knoxville until at least 2024.

Please don't be offended my friend.

People assume everyone on here knows the rules word for word and some of us don't.

This sport can use every sprint car fan we can get.

Some of these guys don't hold back at all so don't take it the wrong way.

It has actually gotten better the last few years, for many years I didn't post at all because I knew I would get blasted with responses.

Rule is the row moves up. Its that simple. If someone misses the start or is ruled out then then everyone moves up a row. Had Jack Dover been 2nd then the whole row would move up. It just so happens Larson was the only car behind him. And he didn't automatically get the points, he stilled had to finish and get into the feature in order to get points so no he did not get 2 points gifted. 2 points being gifted would be if when it was all said and done they gave him 2 additional points. Moving up a row that has happened in the past is not gifting, that is following a rule.

I wouldn't take it personally, there's about 12 people left on Hoseheads and 9 of them get angrier every year. Your post title is wrong as Larson didn't get gifted points just track position. And while it's dumb they didn't cross them up and just slid a row, he did come from 20th to 5th which was the most impressive drive of the week so far.

You should definitely get to some Australian race tracks if you can, ive heard nothing but good things about the racing over there.

Yep but from a points perspective he officially started 22nd and finished 5th so he got a few extra passing points due to the row slide. Trivial point, nitpicking maybe but it's a valid point. Larson obviously would have made it in without that slight benefit but there are scenarios where those couple points could determine who gets locked in and who doesn't.

From a points perspective he officially finished 5th, that's all that matters.  There's no passing points.  He could've started on the pole and finished 5th or he could've started 24th and finished 5th and he still would've got 192 points.  AGAIN NO PASSING POINTS, he wasn't gifted anything.  How come you're not upset about Kofoid?  He was also "gifted" 2 points by your logic.

Gravel gained 2 spots in his heat also. It happens
