Its pretty easy to compare the two, they are both based on the small block Chevy push rod engine designed back in the 50's. They both have the same design when it comes to the rotating assembly, they both have 8 cylinders. Yeah they are making a little more power, but not to the extent to have to tear them down every 8 nights. And they certainly are not obsolete after a month! Hell the touring guys are on the road for more than a month at a time! But you are right in one area that you cant compare the Briggs and Stratton out of your mini to the ford 4 cylinder in a midget.
What don't you understand about a dry track will show who has been buying there way to the front? You even reiterated my point in your own post. Ill try to explain it to ya. Its like putting you in Garry Wright's car when the track is heavy. Sure you will probably be fast because that is a nice car with a good motor, now when it goes dry you probably will not be up front where Garry Wright would be.
I have said my peace as far as this subject goes, but if you ever get tired of racing at the little kid track feel free to come out to one of the NCRA modified races and I would love to impart some of my wisdom unto you!

First, you are comparing apples to oranges here.... 410 sprintcar motors are all lightweight components(aluminum heads, blocks, ti valves, etc) where as far as I know most modifieds are usually considerably heavier motors with heavier cranks etc. Majority of the big sprintcar guys are turning their motors closer to or above 9000 rpms. That is the main reason they have to be freshened so often. They are not obsolete after a month, but every month they come out with some new trick piece or way to gain 1-2 hp here and there. Also, to correct your quip about my micro..... I run a 600cc yamaha r6 converted to run on alcohol and making approx 110hp. At most 1/4 mile tracks(Creek, Cowtown, I-30) we turn the same lap times and speeds as the 360 sprints. You are referring to the junior sprint class running the 5hp briggs motor. As far as your Gary Wright comment..... I would love to be as good as Gary Wright on his worst night. However, when I raced my two barrel last year I did a lot better on the slick tracks that take more skill and setup than i did on the more tacky, motor oriented tracks. I was considerably underpowered and ran a 10 year old steel headed motor. I have been around and worked on every form of cars from ministocks, factory stocks, modifieds, midgets, 600cc micros, sprintcars, asphalt super latemodels, and by far the most competitive of anything i have been around is the 600cc micros under the ASCS2 sanction. I will however be at the NCRA race at Hutch next weekend though. So by all means show me all this wisdom you have. I'm always open to learn something.

Man I don't understand why you think I'm lying to you on this 410 thing. You already realized that you were wrong in one sense (we're mad that's its been taking rubber and you thought it was just dry) so you change the direction of everything. Go over to the main hoseheads forum and ask the cost and longevity of a 410. They will say $40,000 and 10-12 races. However, the fast guys such as Shatz and Saldana go about 6-8. I believe that most of them only run a 2 oil ring package, and I know they turn damn near 9000 constently, so that's a big reason for the rebuilds. The reason they are obsolete after a month is the heads. Someone comes out with a new head about once a month that has about 10-15 more horses. That's why ASCS is so popular, there are no newly designed heads, just the standard spec head. Just to let you know all of this comes from a family member that used to run WoO. I'm not lying to you and I have no reason to. If you really want call Don Ott or Wesmar to ask them what a top of the line 410 is.
Hard Head, Tulsa was a looooong time ago in the racing world. Go watch old videos and you'll see what I'm talking about. Dad's 410 from back them was right on the edge of top of the line and it was putting out probably 50 horses more than the bad boy 360's of today.

Cheese, what do you expect out of someone that bears the Orange and Black 360 days a year. Doesn't OSU take 5 days off to recoup. Ohhh.....I'm sorry, I forgot they only play Three Quarters anyway.
I guess in comparison you could say that OSU runs the 410 program, with lots of money spent, but peters out. Where OU runs the 360 deal and is most always on top of the heap.
Sides all that biness that ol boy' OkHuckchew (bless you) might be on to sumpthin.

I agree with this. But in the big game (knoxville Nationals) the 360 (OU) just can't get the job done.
Sorry Unc.

haha I think to give you an honest answer we all need you to answer a question.
Was your first date a family reuinion?
|
Oddly, no.
I know a guy that dated half the hot girls in Madill back in the 80's that had a few surprises waiting for him! He eventually found out who his real dad was, a man about town so to speak. My friend discovered that quite a few of his dates were either sisters or cousins! He kept running into them at family reunions for years.
