I have a question. I know some of the racers from OKC Speedway drive 2 to 2 1/2 to race why don't some of you drive to Clinton what it's 45 to 1 hr15 min away from OKC they could use the cars. Brill 45 min. I know if you would support Clinton he would run the Sprints but not if 3 or 5 show up I know there are more than out there. Just a question?????

We should sponsor one of those sports cars by giving them a free wrap for the event. An enlarged version of the decal that killed Fairgrounds Speedway. All shiney up for people to see while it dodges potholes.

I guess that, unless you grew up at a race track and have been there 10, 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years of your life, you have no idea how people are affected by the speedways closing.

The reason the big energy and other companies have your mayor in their pocket is simple ,they have payed lobbiest to promote their views and social agendas. We as racers thru our competive nature are an indpendant bunch. We only seem to come together when something displeases us.If you do not have someone to bring your interest to the fore front without a personnel spin on it and keep it in the forefront your will not get very far .Maybe you ought to look at it as being a victim of recreational discrimanation. The city furnishes many places to hit all kinds of balls ,go fishing ,run,go boating but not much to do with anything related to cars the average man can or wants to afford

Yes Greg, I will beat you down like a Red Headed Step Child......lol

The thing is, the City of Oklahoma City had plans in place to build a new "Minor League" Ball park before they tore down 89er's Stadium that was at N.W. 10 & May as Mayor Cornett refers to.

This was a loosing propisition from the start. Why did the City not have a plan in place for the future of Racing?

Good point.

When Bud Carson was alive, NO ONE dared to even think of tearing SFS down. Over time we lost those deep connections downtown I guess. Bud worked for the city before he was a promoter.

Apparently the mayor did not see a need for race fans because I personally do not and will not be interested in a once a year race and especially not a Road course so to speak I think Pedal to the Medal should keep it on the West Coast they like once a year race events and they still have plenty of tracks there for locals. I WANT A CIRCLE TRACK BACK IN OKC for weekly races NOT A OMG IT IS A ONCE A YEAR EVENT ... lets see weekly races bring ion money weekly , Yearly brings it is ONCE a Year NO JUSTICE there

Somebody get contact information on whatever it is the city is trying to bring in and if that series cares enough about racing in general, they will tell the city "no thanks" and go elsewhere. I know they can't seem to afford to turn down potential races but you would think racers of all types would stick together. Let them know how we have been treated and what has happened.

I know there are those who will say "no chance" they will listen but at least the racing community should do something this time since they didn't do anything to save the speedway until it was eight years too late.

It may be ONCE a year for now it could turn in to more. I could lead up to MAYBE NASCAR coming or INDY you never know what it could lead up to. If you all want a weekly race go find some land and SPONSORS and BUILD you a track. Setting on here and CRYING about it is not going to get you a track. I guess that is to much work to go do that we all should stay on this forum and CRY about it. LIKE Greg Moore said it done and over cant change it cant bring it back so MOVE on.

I know we were mislead and lied to by Cornett, but...Any racing in the OKC area, Im going to support because I enjoy it and our city. How many of you have been to I-44 more than once or twice? Any of you frequent 59th and Douglas MX track when it was open? How about spend a day at MacArthur park speedway and watch the karts? Attend the drag boat races on the river or Hydro races at Overholser lake? I have promoted races at SFS and other tracks and have raced at almost every oval track in the state, dirt and asphalt. So I think I'm more than a casual fan. Race tracks all over the country and this state are struggling. Alot of you on here (racers and fans)bitched about SFS and Lanny. Now that its gone, how does it feel? They Bitched about Tulsa Speedway. Now gone! How does that feel? Hell, people bitched about President Buch, Now look what we have! I Co-promoted the Xtreme Super Nationals $25k to win modified races. 5 events all at SFS. The best modified drivers in the country raced the event. The pits were full of NASCAR style haulers. It was the first time most of you ever heard of USMTS. Over 135 Modifieds raced the final event. IMO one of the best events ever held at SFS. I believe to this day, it could have been a huge National event every year if we would have continued to do it. The problem was, we had very little local support from fans and drivers. Sprintcar people bashed it on THIS sight because it wasnt sprintcars and the local modified guys made all kinds of excuses why they didnt race it. So guess what? Its gone too. I miss SFS and Im glad my kids got to experence it and even win a exabition race on it. (Morgan at age 9 Jr Sprint) So..If you are a real racer/race fan, stop bitchin' and moanin'. Get off your ass, be positive and support ALL motorsport racing in OKC! Because like 59th MX, MacArthur Park Speedway, Hydros at Overholser and SFS, it will ALL be gone if we dont stop crying about the promotors and how we were wronged and start suporting them. So...anyone that wants to kick my ass, form a line behind Uncle! lol

Greg AMEN!!!!!! You all get on here and bitch about the city and how they are such horrible people! Yes, it sucks that the fairgrounds got torn down, but it is gone so let it go. My question is this though.... What did you do to help support racing in Oklahoma City before the fairgrounds got torn down? What are you doing to support racing in this area now? All I have heard for as long as I can remember out of all of you is how bad a promoter is or how you arent coming back to a track or arent going to support this or that and how everyone is screwing you over. You all bitch because we don't have a track to anymore. Well there is a dirt track here in Oklahoma City. I-44 Speedway races every week. Its a nice facility and for the most part puts on a damn good show on a weekly basis. Yet the stands look like a ghost town and the pits arent much better. Now I know there are those of you that are going "those aren't REAL race cars or whatever". Well, I went to Brill's Saturday night and that was a joke too. The only class that seemed to have a full field was the e-mods and the stands weren't half full. What message does this send to any potential investors that would want to build a track around here? It tells me that you all want to bitch and no one wants to support racing. I'm as guilty as anyone. I have done my fair share of bitchin and not going to a certain track because I was mad at the people running it or drivers or whatever. So unless people start supporting racing in this area we will not get a new track and dirt racing will die!

The OKC Council Meeting is in the morning. I have already written Mayo Cornuts, and all of the City councilmen. Also 2 weeks ago I wrote to the president of the LeMans racing. If the mayor can find 7 mil for this then he could have fixed our track. What would have hurt to have both? If our city leaders do not support our track then I will not support theirs. There are so many other things in OKC they could use 7 mil on. They have cut the police, fire and emsa. That in inself is not right. In order to have the LeMans here they would have to repave the streets they are racing on before they race and after and also weld every manhole shut. Plus as everyone mentioned everything else that goes with it. I have a friend who is at the fairgrouds right now it 3:25 pm mon. aug 30th. There are 2 okc cop cars who wont let her get close enough to see the sign that says they are building a convention center in its place! They are guarding nothing!!! What a joke.

People (to a point) have a right to bitch, moan and complain just as you have the chance to ignore reading the posts and move on. Don't like it, don't read it. Me? I have to read all of what I can to keep class in order.

Do I like reading about the closing every day? Not really but this gives people their chance to bitch and reflect And until somebody buys out tidbits from me, it will continue to be a place for just that. Has been for 12 years and will continue to be.

I think what alot of people are pissin about now is this grand prix crap. They couldn't take care of history so now they try to pasify the race fans thinking we will support street racing. More nays than yay's I would bet.

And I am sorry, but NASCRAP is so yesterday that it would never succeed here.
