Carol and I were talking about this trip at dinner and we both are looking forward to it. My old orthopaedic Dr. does not due this surgery so I have to go to another Dr. and I could not get an appt. until April 6. Then the 2 doctors have to get their schedules together, it will probably be May before they operate, I started this mess last November oh well.

  1. The last car that I helped on was th 112 from western KS. this was in October 1978, I think a guy named Mel and Charlie Oches owned it. When Mike left Norman he needed a ride and he had driven this car at Liberal and he talked them into coming to Tulsa. They would not let me do anything until Mike told them that I knew how to change tires and gears and that would be the last race car that I would ever touch. I did not know any thing about the car except that it was old, Larry Dewell raced it at the old Tulsa track in 1972, it was beautiful then with a real nice paint job, by '78 it was getting rough. Larry flipped it in turn 1 at Tulsa but I don't think there was much damage. I think that a driver was fatally hurt in this car in 1979. Was this car an Edmonds or a copy, who built the engine and what happened to the Car? I was asked to help on several cars after this but we were starting our family and I had other interests.

John did you know the car was purple and silver before it was it yellow and purple. Also when Bob stared out it was #12 but when he raced at other tracks they would already have a #12 so he put a 1 in front insted of X.I have only seen 1 pic of the purple and silvercar. And i don,t no who has it.I think Jelly told me years ago that he had made 2 edmund copies but don,t know who got it.Bob said one time that it took Jelly over a year to build it.Larry Dewell was one of the best drivers around .Dad still has all the trophies in his garage. My 2 favorite are from the last NCRA race at OKC without a wing and the Liberial fair.

OK, Now maybe you guys can help me out here. I have a photo of the 112 super maybe taken at "Hutch". It is either a brown color or a bronze color with just the number 112 on the car. Can you maybe tell me what year this was and who drove the car? The purple and silver car was originally numbered 12 and I think it was driven by Jerry Everhart around 1972. From what you have said about Jelly building two Edmunds copies you are right. One was the 112 car and maybe the other one might have been the Schippert Mobile Homes number 4. I know Forrest Coleman drove the car a couple times in Oklahoma City during the first part of the 1971 season and Grady Wade won the Nationals with it in Oklahoma City that same year. In 1972 the car was driven by Dave Ross a few times and Ron Fowler drove the car the rest of the time. In 1973 Ron Fowler drove the car. In 1974 and 1975 Grady Wade drove the car. After that I started going less to the races. Can you guys see if my information might be close to being correct or not.

I am just glad that warm weather is in the forecast for this Sat./Sun. , I want to enjoy my food/visit to 81 this Sat. and not have to worry about scarfin down my Hot Dog/Hamburger before it freezes. Coming to the land of Oz and C. Rays Palace.

Have a good tome at 81. I have not talked to Mike in over 10 years. Please tell him hi and if his brother Tony is there tell him I had my son take 2 of the pictures of Norman's cars and make me hard copies and put them in a frame.

There is a black and white photo of the 112 in " High Plains Thunder" Were there 2 cars for Shippert the 4 and the 04?

I believe?? Jack Walker built those Schippert cars before he moved to OKC??? or maybe he was in OKC? I believe I have heard that discussion passed around before. The Schippert cars were always a favorite right after the #55 of course. Roger Thompson almost went into orbit at Enid. But I believe it was rebuilt. By the 74 era I'm thinking Schippert just campaigned the one car?? I could look it up in the programs but I'm a little busy today.

In 75 dad painted the car a rusy brown. That is the same year Jerry Everhart and John Johnson drove the car.Had motors built in whitica won,t mention his name but we blew six in a row. That is why john didn,t drive very long for dad.Wasn,t a very good feeling when you blow them up as fast as you can out them in.Mike in the picture was the helment all white or did it have a red stripe.White John johnson, red stripe Jerry Everhart.

In the photo it is hard to tell because of the shadow, but it looks to me that the helmet is not a solid white. It looks like white on the bottom and the helmet has a skirt around the driver's neck. The uniform looks to be white with either orange or red stripe going down the arm. Does that help? The color of the car is just like you described.

Warren,

I have another photo of the 112 car that is painted the purple yellow and orange paint scheme but does not have Jim Stewart Corvette Center on the hood. I don't know where and when it was taken. The driver has a yellow racing suit on with blue and red trim. He had a solid white helmet on. So who might this be and what year? I do have a couple photos of the 112 car taken at Tulsa in 1978 and Mike Peters was driving it than. It has no body panel for the top too. So when did they repaint the 112 car from the multi-color to the brown color. I'm getting a little confused.

The 112 was probably the prettiest super around in 1972 They did not race here in Tulsa very much but I sure enjoyed it when they did. By 1978 it was not as good looking as it once was but it was fast. It would have been nice to see it run a whole lot on the big track. In 78 the roof was off, and somebody had put a bumper sticker on the back that said "America needs gas eat Beans" Mike blew an engine one race and was in a wreck another night but still had enough points to finish in the top ten. One of the owners, I did not know their names but it was the thin one, was talking to me one night about engines and told me about all the trouble that they had had. He said that on some of the blown engines when you took them apart they did not have the parts in them that they were suppose to have, I better not say anymore or I could get sued.

Alan,

Thank you for asking your Dad about the history of these cars. I'm from Lawton, Oklahoma but during those glory years I loved every minute during those times. I kept up with the races in the Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas areas and the NCRA series as well.

Thanks you and your family for the memories that we can share on here. I knew the site was going to be a success when Jon Johnson's daughter was the 2nd person to sign the original guestbook. The site was only days or hours old.

Since then hundreds signed in to several different guestbook. Now we have this forum, albeit not many chime in, but their out there reading, and there is some big names in racing reading and lurking out there. Many thought they would never even own a computer, but they can sure click on RFTP now, LOL.

Warren,

Even though we have not met personally I would also like to add my thanks to you for creating this site. It has renewed a greater interest than I even had even when I was going to all those races during those glory years. Plus, ever since the Lloyd Ruby overpass dedication in 2006 and now with our annual Racers Reunions we have in Wichita Falls I am really having a great time reliving Racing From The Past! Thank You.

I talked to Jelly yesterday and he told me all the single tube frames were a Edmund's copy. I have one that is the 1974 A J Little car from Lawton, OK.
