Why does Knoxville shut down so early (yes I know they have a LM race yet upcoming)? I understand some Friday night tracks finishing the season early for high school football, but Knoxville is a Sat night track.

I think its an economic thing as the weekly shows dont have as many fans as it takes to break even.Their main income comes from the Nationals. They are a well ran operation and know what it takes to be profitable. They pay a good purse compared to many tracks.

Would you continue putting it on as a promoter, if you lost money on each race?

How does Knoxville lose money on each regular show when so many other tracks around the country that run weekly sprint car shows don't?

I truely don't know anything about Knoxville's finances. I can only tell you what friends who are regulars at Knoxville tell me. Knoxville has a pretty hefty purse compared to those other weekly shows. Over time, the size of the weekly crowds is going down.  That's all I know, but logically, if it was so profitable, why wouldn't they race until the snow flies?

Besides Friday night football there is also college football on Sat in addition to other sports on other nights of the week.

Yes they don't always interfere on times but lots of people are only going to go to so many things/week regardless.   Either because they don't want to be gone every day/night of the week or because they can't afford to be gone every night of the week.

Families (including grandparents) that have kids (plural) in middle school and high school sports can pretty much be busy going to games 4 nights/week.   Sometimes people just want to sit at home and relax.

I think it goes back to what others have said, if they were profitable running a weekly show through Sept and into Oct, they would do so.

I'm just saying that I would personally support it if they ran later. I have heard in the past it was because of Football! Fact or Fiction, I don't know? I do know Pa. runs a lot later into the season with their races so I guess it could be Iowans like their Hawkeyes a little more than Pa. likes their Nittany Lions???

Ford I agree with you 100% on everything you pointed out. (I forgot about the Cyclones)!!!! J/K Smile

But if they ever change their Mind! As the late Michael Jackson put it, "I'll Be There".

I see what you're saying. I'd say it's a lot of factors, most have been mentioned already. Keep in mind too, that lots of teams and fans drive in from a distance to go to Knoxville. Once school and harvest season starts, people's lives get busier.

Good reply Ford - I didn't think about harvest time and some of these guys being farmers....makes sense.

I wasn't trying to bash Knoxveille in any way - I hope Kendra or no one else took it that way. Just was asking the question.

Ford makes a good point in his last sentence as well.

Along with the reasons mentioned above, I think it may have had to do with the fact that many of Knoxville's competitors also ran IMCA back in the old days. By shutting down after the nationals, which was about the same time the fair curcuit started to pick up it allowed those guys to do their thing without cutting into car or driver counts at Knoxville.
