I must say I LOVED the new Friday night format of the Knoxville Nationals...It really added a ton of intensity from the drivers and thrills for the fans..As a broadcaster I enjoyed calling the races on KNIA/KRLS because every race was important and intense with big implications...I know there's going to be people that just feel they have to be negative....but how can you HONESTLY say that didn't improve the Knoxville Nationals? It was AWESOME!!! Sure it hurt Danny Lasoski(who probably hates it right now) but Steve Kinser starts 15th in the B instead of mid pack in the C where he would've been before, Dale Blaney is now in the A and would have been dead last in points and at best started 11th in the C...so it did what it was supposed to because for just one example, Dale Blaney would've had almost no chance to win the Nationals in the previous format and obviously he is a good enough driver with good enough equipment to get it done....so fans would've lost because they didn't get to see a driver of his caliber race the big race ... Toby Kruse you had a great vision and it came true tonight.....GREAT JOB Toby Kruse!!! I seriously can't wait for Saturday's show....I wish the Nationals would never end!!! Just my opinion as a fan/broadcaster who loved what he saw

I found this very unfair to the drivers who qualified better on their qualifying nights. It's called tough luck. I think the best thing to have done was line up the higher point drivers from their qualifying nights at the front of the A Friday night to defend their positions. They say the cream rises to the top, so then have those top 4 from Friday get into the A for Saturday. Next high points after Friday totals line up for the B Saturday.

I say: Fail.

I say its great! Those who don't have an "outlaw" budget have a fighting Chance.. Think about it.. yeah while I do agree the invert for top qualifiers was a little too deep, it still makes it much more interesting.

I thought it was stupid when I read about the changes, but hindsight is 20/20, and it was awesome.

Great Racing on a Good Track but getting out of the Track at 12:30 is a little late. I wish they could have moved the show along a little there were allot of unnessary delays!

I still have 4 Chili Bowl Tickets for sale on my WebSite under MISC

Great night of racing! Under the old format Friday night was a non-event when compared to the action we saw last night. I totally agree with leaving the track at 12:15 being too late. However the racing and intensity was awesome, well done Knoxville!

Perhaps instead of redrawing qualifying order, they go by points accumulated? Then, hypothetically, if you did well on your qualifying night, at least you get a slight advantage. Just a thought. This is assuming that qualifying earlier = better, as it generally seems to be.

Was the crowd last night better then the Friday night attendance has been for the last 10-15 years? Sounds like the format change for Friday was a big improvement.

I'm sure I will get hammered by this post, but here it goes....While I admit that the racing was great, I am against people getting a mulligan and leapfrogging the drivers who EARNED their Saturday night starting spots on the night it counted the most. Why should a driver, who was last in points after his qualifying night, get a starting spot in the Saturday night "A" Main?

Unless you are working on a car what the hell do you have to do today except shower, eat & come back for the big race.

IT IS THE NATIONALS & IT ONLY HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR!!!

So how would you have made the night interesting

The last race had nothing to do with tonight so people got up and left.

Why should a driver that was last go to the A, I think that was the point of the whole night

Big improvement for Friday night. I wish they would start on time and move the show a little faster, too much dead time.

Top 18 in points after Wed/Thurs are locked in the Saturday night "A" Main. Line up Friday night heats by the qualifying night points with a total invert... Then zero out all points and start anew.....Score all Friday finishing positions by points with passing points included. Top two in Friday night points make up the 4th row of the "B" on Saturday night...Top 6 transfer to the "A"...NO GIMME!

Thanks for the explanation Hawker. I like the new format, at least they are racing for something on Friday.

Total invert penalizes those who do well on Wed/Thurs.

I liked the new format, and the racing was better last night than either qualifying night. Huge improvement, the only thing I'd change is getting them to hurry things along. The reason people left after the A Main was because it was midnight. They missed a good World Challenge.

Lets just hope it don't turn into a Boone supper nationals. Hope Toby don't get sprintcars confused with taxi cabs that race all week long for chicken feed while the track makes $$$$$$$$$$$$ .

Remember this is the first attempt at this. Knoxville will look at how it worked and tweak the format if needed.

I know Blaney thinks its the greatest thing ever...

The new format made for some GREAT racing!! No doubt about that. The only thing Im not quite excited about is how a guy can run ZERO laps on his qualifying night and start 19th in the A on Sat. Nothing against blaney, he was fast and raced hard...just seems to give a big middle finger to everyone that actually qualified.
