The KWS is going to the Tulare Thunderbowl this weekend for a 2 day show and it got me thinking about the top tracks in my state of California. What are your favorite 3 tracks in your state and why?
#1 is the Tulare Thunderbowl- The track and everything about it is just awesome! I haven't seen a bad race there and there is always 2 or 3 wide racing. The promoters always prepare the track well and are very fan friendly. I tell everyone the drive is far but it is totally worth it! The Trophy Cup is the best race at the best track and it is a must see!
#2 and #3- For me this is a toss up between Placerville and Antioch speedway. Placerville is an awesome little highbanked bullring. The lines are long to get in and the crowd is always on their feet. You sit as close as you possibly can sit right next to the track and there is usually 2 wide racing!
Antoich Speedway has many soo many great improvements over the years and has become such a racy place! They have a great crowd and they also have 2-3 wide racing. Last year's World of Outlaws race was awesome as was KWS first race of the year! This speedway went from a place people didn't want to come to, to one of the best tracks in California! I got tickets for the September WoO race this year and can't wait!
Honorable mention:
Petaluma, Marysville, Silver Dollar, Ocean, Hanford, and Santa Maria
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

1. Lucas Oil Speedway - Truly the "Diamond of Dirt Tracks". Clean modern, like a minor league ballpark instead of a dirt rtack.
2. LA Raceway - Friendly, polite fans, good views from the grandstand, wide open racing.
3. Lake Ozark Speedway - great atmosphere, good concessions, easy access

In Nebraska..
1.I-80 Speedway, big wide fast and has been producing 2 and 3 wide racing and slide jobs galore.
2. Eagle Raceway, a very close 2nd simply because I prefer bigger tracks. The racing there this year speaks for it self, it has been outstanding.
3 Junction motor Speedway. First class facility. Track is a little narrow and can be hard to pass on at times.

For winged sprintcars I like: Calistoga 1/2, Tulare 1/3, Watsonville (Ocean) 1/4 mile. My favorite of each size.
Midgets: Ventura
CRA nonwing 410: Bakersfield (Oildale for you oldtimers).
usac 360 nonwing: Santa Maria. (also the best a mod track)

In Missouri, three of the best are Pevely, Wheatland, and Osborn.

Oklahoma
1. Port City Raceway. high banked 1/8th mile mini sprint track. Quite possibly the best mini sprint track in the nation. definitely up there. Average over 120 cars a week and that's in the middle of the summer. Spring and Fall races are upwards of 160+ The Relay4Life/Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial will be there in September. That is going to be an epic show. The place just has that peculiar atmosphere that accompanies great racing. small stands - but every week they are packed. It means something to win there. Hell - it means something just to finish in the top ten lol. If they get the track right - the place is golden. But it's all about the cushion. and they get it right more often than not.
2. Lawton Speedway. Not a big fan of the racing surface - or even much of the racing there either lol. But it has a good atmosphere and if the track is in shape - great races!. Lucky for me since I'm covering the ASCS regional shows - Lawton is always good when ASCS is in town
3. Creek County Speedway I-44 Riverside Speedway
Creek County just had a hell of a ASCS Sooner show last friday. the entire show was stellar. 29 ascs sprints, 28 champ sprints, 23 modifieds and that was it. NONE of the 5 stock car classes we used to have to sit through to see the sprint A main. And the track surface looked better last friday than I'd ever seen it before. If they can keep that up - it will be the 2nd best track in the state imo.
I-44 Riverside is another mini sprint track. They messed with the configuration and banking last year - screwed it up pretty bad. BUT - they have been making good strides in the car count and the racing. We are going there Saturday night for our sophmore trip to 44 this season. takin' the kiddos to see their first race ever - the forecast is perfect so hopefully the racing is good too.
My real list is probably: Port City Raceway Cowtown Speedway Lawton/Creek County
those are the 4 places we really look forward to the racin' - although we are hoping to make it to a couple thick weekends of ascs regional action. Maybe Gulf South or Warrior/Midwest.........never seen any of those tracks before - really hope with covering them this year that I'll finally be able to

In North Dakota:
1. Nodak Speedway, Minot-My hometown track, fast 3/8 mile, recently had a $17 million dollar grandstand built, very clean, modern, and produces close racing.
2. River Cities Speedway, Grand Forks-Fast 1/4 mile, Johnny Gibson describes this track is one of his favorite tracks to watch World of Outlaw racing at.
3. Red River Valley Speedway, West Fargo- Recently converted to a 3/8 mile from a 1/2 mile. The racing is a lot closer now and the promoter is bringing in a lot of sprint car shows, including the WoO and All Stars this summer.

Iowa:
# 1 Rock Rapids-Fantastic HRA Wingless sprint cars at the 3/8 very fast track! Loyal fans and every driver is treated with respect.
# 2 Knoxville-Home of the Nationals how much more can you say?
# 3 Spencer-Have not been to another track in Iowa, but The HRA wingless sprints are racing there for the first time on June 8th so that is why it made my list
South Dakota:
# 1 I-90-Always finding ways to bring the fans, very family friendly, doing alot of things right the last few years.
# 2 Husets- Extremely tough race track to get a hang of but if you can master this track you can get around just about any other track. The wall is VERY unforgiving here.
# 3 Wagner- I have heard a lot of good things about this track but I have never been to it. This would have to be my third choice
HRA Wingless Sprint Cars!
