It was officially announced by John McCoy that the 305 sprint car rules would remain the same for the 2012 season at Knoxville Raceway.

So the question is will other tracks and originations follow.

It will be interesting to see if Burlington will stay with their 2010 rules, as they have the best car count next Knoxville. It is myunderstanding that some of their drivers from last season are building motors to match Knoxville rules.

The way I see it we have 3 different sets of rules.

1 Knoxville Raceway 2 Burlington 3 Midwest 305 and Jackson and who knows what is going to happen in Jackson

What exactly would they do that would match Knoxville rules and still be legal to run at Burlington?

I got to say I'm sick of all the bitching and belly aching about the 305 rules. ONE rule change by Burlington would allow 99% of the 305's run any where in the state. Thats the no port matching the injection to the head.

Knoxville allows dry sumps. How many cars are really have them???? The track champion's motor didn't have one. If you build a dry sump motor you know then you can only run it at Knoxville.

Short of that they are all damn near identical.

What I am questioning is will Burlington or other track and originations change their rules to match Knoxville?

The MW 305 club tried to work with Knoxville on the rules, but they stayed with their current rules. Three chassis each were given away at the Knoxville banquet to the 360's & 410's, but none for the 305's whose racers need a new chassis as much or more than the other 2 classes.

MW 305 & Burlington's rules are basiclly the same...Knoxville is the exception to most clubs / race tracks rules for 305's.

We just want to race at any track that runs 305 sprint cars, as economically as possible.

ecs, show up to a meeting, we would like to hear your opinions & ideas in person.

If Burlington is getting a good car count, what is their motivation to change the rules? Don't fix it if it isn't broken. I was just wondering what the difference was between the rules that was such a big deal, short of dry sumps. I think however that Burlington has the right idea. Put together a rule book and leave it alone. If you are getting cars then not everyone is upset. Just my 2 cents.

Carl has done more to try to get the 305 guys together than anyone else. I'll never be able to thank Carl enough for his contribution to the 305 sprints and his help to new and young racers.

If you have a Burlington legal motor, you can run almost everywhere. (except URSS)

Lets just try to get along and race!

Mark, for you to criticize other tracks for lack of support for the 305s is not the way to get them to work with you. Maybe Knoxville did not give a chassis or some other items to the 305s that the 410s and 360s receive but I will guarantee you that they received more them any other track will give them. If you check out the Knoxville banquet post you will find a list of product given to the racers.

I am not sure how many people know just what the Knoxville Raceway Charitable Organization (KRCO) has done. They made it possible for all drivers that received a point's award to received $1000.00 plus worth of safety equipment (choice of any Simpson helmet and a complete set of Nomex or CarbonX underwear) and insurance that can be used at any race track that the driver participates at for the 2012 season. On behalf of my 2 grandsons that raced in the 305 class in the 2011 season I want to thank the KRCO for all that they do.

I totally agree that the cost of the 305 has already gotten out of hand and that it would be great to have one set of rules nationwide. I wish I had the magic answer but I don't.

I believe that if we can get Burlington, Jackson and the Midwest 305s on the same rules that we would be a step closer to our goal.

Mark as far me coming to a meeting if it is possible I would be there.

I would also like to thank Karl for his support.

Yes 305 9A, I could not agree more. Karl is an awesome guy, and that is exactly why I pointed out that you can lead them to water, you just can't make them drink. Karl made a good faith effort to bring everyone together and he should be commended for that effort. I have nothing but respect for the man, he has helped us out tremendously and I fully intend to do business with him until we are done with our racing.

Dan, as my term is over at the end of this year, I am done with the MW 305 as a board member. The banquet will be my last meeting I attend. I hope that they get their rules standardized, so 305 sprintcar racing can flourish in the mid-west.

Knoxville is still the finest racing facility in the USA, and their staff and safety crew are the best in the world.

Good luck to Alan & Cody, who are 2 of the best young racers coming up thru the ranks. I'll be seeing them in the 360's soon!

yOU CAN NOT MAKE 305 S A BIG MONEY CLASS. tHE HOLE IDEA FOR DRIVERS TO MOVE UP, NOT STAYING IN 305 S BECAUSE MONEY IS SO GOOD IN 305. THE TOP RUNNING 360 COULD EASY RUN 410 WITH THE MONEY THEY SPEND THEY COULD MAKE 3 TIMES THE MONEY. 305 IS THE THIRD CLASS AT KNOXVILLE. IT IS A GOOD CLASS I HAVE BEEN TO ABOUT 16 KNOXVILLE BANQUETS AND HAVE NEVER WON A CHASSIS

AT bURLINGTON WE WON ONLY A NOSE WING(HOME MADE) AND A CHECK FOR 25 DOLLARS. WE ALSO GOT NOTHING AT ALLISON. WE WON 2 FEATURES AND CAME BACK NEXT WEEK AND GATE WAS LOCKED FOR GOOD THAT YEAR. I THINK YOU SHOULD ADD UP THE VALUE OF YOUR PRIZES AND INSURANCE IS ABOUT 350 DOLLARS A YEARI HAVE BEEN TO ABOUT 16 KNOXVILLE BANQUETS AND HAVE NEVER WON A CHASSIS BUT THAT IS LIFE AND LUCK OF DRAW. BE GLAD YOU HAVE KNOXVILLE VALUE OF SAFETY CREW I SAW A 360 SPRINT CAR END OVER END ON FIRE THE FIRE EXT WAS 15 SECONDS AFTER CAR STOPED.SOME TRACKS ARE PEE POOR AND IF YOU LOOKED AT EVERY THING YOU PROBABLY SHOULD NOT RACE THERE

One of the easiest ways for a track to keep the cost down is to offer little in prize money. Burlington is just about right for a 305 class. When we raced Sportsman Midgets, which is now the Illini Series, we got a flat rate $50. across the board per show. First place got $50. and last place got $50. and progressive pay has been fought by just about every racer there to this day. The point is to make it affordable. It helps keep guys from blowing huge amounts of money on the cars. And it works. The Sportsman class of Midget is one of the most affordable, most competitive classes of open wheel cars in the country and at one time they had 45 cars in the class. Today I think they are paying either $75. or $100. per show and slightly more if you are willing to travel. The 305 Sprint Car is nothing more than a Sportsman midget, which really is the way it ought to be! If a track or a club is going to offer more affordable racing then it should be expected that they will pay out more affordable prize money. If you spend $50,000 to run a 305 expecting a huge pay out at the end of the year you are fooling yourself.

I think everyone needs to go take a look at what the U. R. S. S is doing. They had like 40 nights of racing and over 80 cars register in two regions. I think they have got something figured out.
