I REMEMBER THAT SPRINT CAR WELL, BUT GIVING JEFF CREDIT FOR WHAT NANCE SPEED EQPT. DID ISN'T RIGHT. MR NANCE AND HIS CREW HAS ALWAYS FOUND WAYS TO IMPROVE SPRINTER'S, BUT SOME PROMOTER'S WORKED AGAIST HIM WITH ELIMINATING HIS USE OF AERODYNAMIC INOVATIONS ECT I WISH THEY HAD SHOWN THE AERODYNAMIC PIECES THAT ATTACHED WHERE NERF BARS ATTACHED .......

I agree with you bushwacker, Jeff was and still is one hell of a driver, but back in 83 when I first saw this my thought was Nance changed the game again.

I feel the same way. Nance worked to build a better race car, took some things the world had made, and handed it right back even better. Many inventions came out of that shop, and on this day, Jeff gets all the credit.
Nance was probably happy to get the tv airtime, Jeff needed the publicity, and no one thought these videos would be aired nearly 30 years later. An honest mistake I suppose, maybe they were just doing it for the moment instead of looking towards the moment being remembered. Even Berggren was fairly new to doing national commentary, and I figure he also felt he had to make an interesting story.
Back in the day from what I remember, the drivers were the focus more than the teams- and a win was more important for the short being than the points championship. The teams quietly made them the stars, and the car builders hoped to move more cars and parts-any way they could.

actually, nance had built a similar down force car that sammy drove at SYRACUSE. the managment forks pulled the same crap and had parts removed. as i remember mr nance had a small spoiler attached over the fuel cell, along with other sheet metal parts on the rest of the car...they always had nance make his sprinter's look like everyone elses. what happened to letting someone change the profile , as a fact, new technology was always tried by different builder's. and were allowed to race , his in board brake, and splined wheels ideas are still in use t-day 30 years later....

I can only imagine what designs/fabrication/technology would be done today IF the WoO still ran at the Moody Mile, just read in AARN yesterday about Super Dirt Week and the Big Block Modifieds and their 200 lap race and cost and what it takes to be competitive at Syracuse, can only imagine what the Sprint Car folks would try. Fully enclosed cage with sheetmetal and plexiglass to see out front or ?? and that is just for starters. Prolly be a whole new rulebook in the WoO just for Syracuse.
