I need to build a front clip for an old chassis. I'm utilizing a cross spring suspension. I see most use the dropped front axle but see that a straight axle was used by others. I was curious about the pro's and con's of each. I have a straight axle available. If I used it, would it use a different size spring than a dropped set-up or just locate the spring perch higher or....? Obviously, I've never done this and am looking for some advise and feedback. thanks, ron c

The one on the #38 I drive is on top, with a straight axle. This car has an adjustable front spring hanger,up and down, and I've noticed many that were not. It was built by Bob Hurley in OkC , 1970.
I do however think the 'behind the frame' version looks soooo much better. Of course you have to take into consideration the distance from the engine plate to the center of the spring hanger, in my opinion- since a behind the axle spring would put the front axle out further by 2 inches a mounted on top axle.
Mine handles so good, I'd hate to change it.

Welder,
Didn't you have some pieces made for that? I was thinking you had a spring hanger made up that was very clean.
