I remember when I was a kid I lived on east 4th street in Hutchinson. It was at that time US 50 and it was the main route to KC from Dodge City. Back then they didn't have the meat plants out west like they do now. The Isaac trucks use to park along the curb and walk up to Rex's diner. One time I was doing my thing under the shade tree with toy race cars and dirt track. One driver yelled at me and said I'm I in your race there. He walked on to the diner. Who could that truck driver have been. I still wonder. Things like that stick in a young boys memory. If it had been a local racer I would probably have known. But I didn't know the western Kansas drivers.
Thanks for the photos. Wasn't Bob driving the #24 coupe when it wrecked at Wakeeney. I have photos on the site of the aftermath?

A request has been made to tie a red scarf on your roll bar and let it fly. That is what Bob was known for when he raced. Bob Salem was one of the legends of Kansas racing. Drove for Evart Isaac in the early days. I'm sure there will be a lot red scarfs flying at Belleville Thursday night.

Didn't he drive a coup 97 (Lil Stinker) back in the early years? I have a couple photos of that car.

Bernie Bydler was driving the #24 coup owned by Vernon Schrater. If you have other photos please let me know.

Note the one photo of Bobby's red car and see David Ross's 54 and Vernon Schrater's 24. I don't know who the two people are in the photo.

Attached also is a photo of our race cars (when we were kids and dad just started racing)

I'm not so sure they don't put on a better show than NCRA or ASCS and for the sure the WoO. There is just closer racing it seems. Seems like the others get strung out and more follow the leader. But I don't make very races.
