It was probably 1983 at the Hutchinson Nationals in this car. Did Frank own the car? Who owned it? It appears to have some kind of material covering the sides on the wing. Maybe a borrowed wing?

Looks to me if that wing has been in a crash and did not totally destroy it and they just straightened it out as best as possible to get it through the day , the belly of the wing is crumpled up as you can tell at the back of the wing and also the runners look out of alingnment as well.
The Car has no left side Nerf Bar as well, must have not faired as well as the wing did.

JD, That is why your a racer and I'm just a fan. Does that driver look like Frank's build? Looks a little small to me. But maybe he trim down some in the 80's.

Warren, Guess I just notice those things from years of being around them and just lookin at em all the time and Car Owners always look at the bent pieces it seems, lol.
Really does not look like Frankie Lies to me , like you said to small of a build but could like you said, have lost weight and I believe he had a Sprint Tail Nance , white and Blue #56 with Silver leaf type numbers/lettering, I have some pics of that car and maybe a few are on your site and this could be that car after he re painted it, want to say that was about the last time he raced a car back then.
Sure looks like Ken Brewers car to me with #96 , Ken did run in the 80's in the Champ Dirt Era but not for sure if that is his car???. Mr. Grace could probably enlighten us to who it is.

Actually Ken was in the same races that day. That is why an NCRA Champion had to have an X after his number.
I looked and I don't seem to have that car on the site. I thought I did. I remember seeing it.

I sure thought I remembered sending you pics of it to put up on your site. I thought it was one up close in a turn at 81 for an NCRA ???, but not sure.

The photo that Warren posted was taken at the Hutchinson Nationals in 1983, That is the only time I know of that Lies drove the car with the "x" on it. He did race it again twice at the Kansas State Fair in September of that year finishing second to Copeland in the feature on the first day. That time the car carried the number 96 without the "x". It is a little more ragged than most of the cars that Lies drove in his career. I too, wonder who it belonged to. I asked his widow but she said she doesn't remember.

This last one with a conventional supermodified tail. This next one is the one with the sprint tail. But I can't find it on the site. Just tells you how well the site is organized if the builder can't find it.
I was working on a page with all drivers on in alphabetic order. You could click on the name and it would take you to every page that driver was on.

The car belong Dave Buckley he lived between Andover and Augusta, Kansas. He was a former street stock racer at 81 Speedway and tried his hand at the super modified ranks in the early 80's. He also raced in the sprint 4 class too.
If you look closely at the top of hood by the roll cage it has his name as the driver.
I not sure if Frank bought this car or just drove it. I'm thinking he just drove it.
I know it was a Nance car. Probably a '81 to '83 chassis.

Buckley was one of the big dogs in the street stock class in the late 70's I believe. Thanks for setting the record straight.

Frankie Lies drove this car in the NCRA late model race at Enid on October 18, 1982. Can anyone tell me who owned this car?
