I ran across this reading old threads at the Jalopy Journal or the H.A.M.B. Forum.
This is THE car that started me down this path. Tulsa had a 1/2 (INSIDE) 5/8ths mile clay oval that I could hear from my bedroom window as far back as I can remember, 1974. A friend of mine GAVE me a Zink super modified chassis about 10 years ago, The story goes that John Zink sold out to a "Large" company. John Zink was a manufacter of home HVAC equipment. They were bought by some huge company. First thing the new company did was dig a HUGE hole and bulldoze the race shop and bury all the cars, parts, etc. Plant is no longer around 41st and Peoria in Tulsa, long gone. but that Zink super-modified chassis is at my dads house in a storage shed. 100" wheel base. No sheet metal, nothing but tubes. Probably only good for building a drag car, maybe not (super OLD), but at least I have it. Probably worth $40 dollars. Many a night I watched Emmett Hahn battle Ray Crawford (Hillenberg Special, black car, setup = good vs. evil. HA! father of Donnie Ray Crawford, WOO super dude) for the super modified win. Thanks for reminding me of my youth.

all of the Zink race cars are at the ranch north of Sand Springs. i saw them. some have been restored and Dennie Moore is working on others.....i doubt the authenticity. it is probably one of many Stanton or Barnett copy cars biuilt in the early 80s

Easy mistake to make.
i once went to look at some old chassis and thought they looked like a gilmore (later decided they were Jack Rich copies)
The seller told me they were Nances. We both knew better, but he didn't know that I did. The bright eyed child in us all wants to believe everything we hear when it comes to these old cars.

3 years ago I even thought I had found an old Zink/Moore chassis, but that was wishful thinking. It I think was an Alvin Bennett car.

there were several Howerton cars like the ones on RFTP and copies of those, Barnett, Stanton, King, and others around here but Zink kept em all. the restored 01 car pictured in RFTP also ran with number 52 and 1300 (KCNW) the one with the sprint tail was the last one and the other car (the big car) and all are at the Ranch along with the Buddy Cagle car that started as an Indy car, became a super (the "fliptop" and is being restored as an Indy car.

I have been thinking about the "fliptop" car that Cagle drove for several weeks now. I saw it several times in the pits at Tulsa, but never got around to taking a close look at at it. Does anyone have any pics of it?

There is an awesome photo of one of the restored Zink cars on the Racing From the Past website. Got me wanting to see more. Are the Zink museum cars on a website anywhere? I Googled it without success.... But then I am much better at setting the jets on a Holley four barrel than I am at maneuvering around the web.

Thanks for the pic Brian. We always thought Zink "stretched the rules" with this car. Worried about how to get Buddy out of the car in case of an accident.

Mike Pogue Collection By Tim Malone
Jackie came back to Tulsa one weekend in 1973(from USAC) and he drove the 'mothballed' offset. I'll bet he showed them who was still the boss has he has a little edge on Emmett Hahn?

Herschel Goodnight, Trophy Girl (?) and Jackie Howerton and a win at 81 Speedway in 1971.

Warren did the zink team race the roadster out of town a lot in 70/71? They just ran the Edmund's style at Tulsa except when they needed a second car.

Ray I don't remember it. The 1300 was at the fairgrounds at Hutch. I believe that is what he won the 5-State Fair race at Liberal in also. Mike Pogue says there is a story to go along with the Wichita race.

I remember Buddy Cagle regularly running the roadster at Tulsa, like the pic from Brian shows.
