We have bought several (12 or so) and only one was good the way they use to be. The rest were tasteless. The good tasting one was a seed watermelon the rest were seedless .
Just curious!

Warren , Have bought 3 Water Melons in the past 2 weeks while going down to Lawton Speedway , bought them in Rush Springs, Okla. which is on the way to Lawton and this place is suppose to be Watermelon Capital of the World ,have a festival and all that every year and 2 of the 3 were not good at all, seemed 2 of them were to ripe and like you say kind of tasteless and the other one was better but not much, was really dissappointed to as Watermelons like everything else has went up , paid $10 for the one this past Sat. and then get to Lawton and it rains the show out. Should of known then the Melon would be bad.

I never have gotten the 'taste' for watermelon myself. However, I have found my better half loves it.
The downside is, if we do find a great watermelon, the better it is, the more she will try get me to eat it with her.
Last one we bought, was bad.

in the OLD DAYS WHEN WE BOUGHT WATER MELONS AT A ROAD SIDE ECT, WE PLUGGED EM TO CHECK IF GOOD. SOMETIMES ONE WOULD SMELL LIKE SOUR CIDER , NASTY. A TRIANGLE CUT WORKED GREAT. I STOPPED AT A ROADSIDE SEVERAL YEARS AGO ASKED THE OLD DUDE TOPLUG ONE . HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKIN ABOUT.BORROWEDA KNIFE AND SHOWED HIM HOW, AND YA GUESSED IT- IT WAS A BAD MELLON !!!!!!!!!

bushwacker, Might try that on the way to Lawton to race this weekend , stop by one of those roadside melon stands on Hwy. 81 and sure need to check it good this time , 2 for 3 on bad melons this season, but about way our luck has been this year racing , but keep trying and surely it will change.lol
Bummer deal about no OCRS Sprinters at 81 this year in Oct., heard issues between C Ray and OCRS on what it is usually about MONEY, anyway will miss all those KAR cars this time. J.D.

Why not have a sprint car weekend with all the classess in the area at one track. 305's, 2 barrel's, rookie sprint cars, 360's and a non-wing show like Dodge is trying to get going.

Warren, That would be something 4 Sprint Classes all in one night. But once again the promoters could not and would not work together for that to happen, it is a ME/I world out there and just cannot see it happening or at least right now.
bushwacker, I am gonna try that before I buy that is for sure , then either it goes home or stays, no guessing anymore.

Once you find out if the Watermelon is good,,what i do is cut it open ,,, and cut all of it up in little squares and fill up about 5 or 6 zip lock baggys...And then put them in the FREEZER...frozen melon squares.....they make pretty good snacks and it will make a melon last alot longer...
Usually when you get a watermelon you got to eat it in a few days. But by cutting it up and freezing it will let you buy a Big one and you can eat your share and then freeze the rest and you got melon squares whenever you want with no wasted melon...This also works with Honey dew melons and cantlops.. I told the person that told me they were nuts ,,but know that i tryed it i do it several times each summer...Good healthy Snack. And you can add you favorite snake bite juice to it...or you can use them in smoothies in the blender...... Yummy i think i will make me one NOW...
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

hey bandanna, that freezer trick works with grapes too..... as far as mellons go i figure if ya end up with a bad one, a person could inject it with vodka or everclear, hell that would surely mask the nasty odor of the bad mellon, might be one hell of a party too.....

I will have to try grapes i never have sounds good....I like Apple Pucker or good strawberry wine in my Mellon and then freeze it in squares.,,,also if you drink beer and you want a change of pase.,,,take some Hot Dame and put about an inch in a frozzen mug and fill it up with beer...It is like a cinamon beer with a little bite to it,,,you for sure wont get a bad beer face out of that....
Also at Sams wholesale they sell hot spicey Olives in a big jar that go real good in beer ot A Bloody marry.
And if you use a mellon with seeds you can play spit the seed in the cup at 6 foot away,,you just got to hit the one in the middle or close one eye...
Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
