In regards to Mr. Clonche’s car, we measured the wheel base and it came out at 107" and 109". When Mike Johnson and i went to check the ring and pinion we were able to look at the lower trailing arm mounts as well. It was obvious that the left side TRAILING arm mount had been moved. You could compare it to the stock frame sitting on the trailer and the overlap between the two sections was missing.

I understand Tim's displeasure and I understand his argument that a 3/16" isn’t a "performance" advantage but when you combine that with a lower trailing arm that’s got a bolt hole that’s slotted out well over a half inch you start adding things up.

Mike Johnson is the metric frame expert. He can shed more light on this if he wishes. He's the one that was able to tell without a doubt that he had moved the mount.

As for the 9b car, he signed in under IMCA rules. The right upper was non stickered and didn’t fit any of the matches we had and none of the matches we rounded up in the pits. While i don’t think he gained any performance advantage from the arm by the "rules" he wasn’t legal. I appreciate those guys taking their lumps and not being pricks. Classy guys. I wish I could say the same for Randy Timms. He’s got a nice hauler and that’s about where it ends with that guy.

If anyone has any questions, Stacy, Doug Ivey, Mike and I are all on here.

Thanks R. Mills

Why don’t you tell everyone why Randy Timms was DQ! So all of you out there know why. He was told you are legal in the letter of the RULES, your not legal in the sprit of the RULES. It was a Shock they said was not in the sprit of the rule. He was running the AFCO shock from (page 34 of the Speedway Catalog) .

Here’s the rules from http://www.battlegroundspeedway.net/Contact_Us.html#Limited_Modifieds_Rules

Shocks:

Shocks must be steel. Must use stock type shock ends. May weld or screw stock ends on shocks.

The stock shock frame mounts must be used in the original stock location.

One shock per wheel. May use spacers when mounting shocks.

Air shocks not allowed.

Guys, I'm just happy they are starting to tech! All the tracks around here are doing nothing in regards to pre/post race inspection. Good job guys! Maybe they won't ruin this class after all!??

I like bmodcrazy am glad they were teching and that why I put the post up. If you want to know why he was dq ask Mr. Mills. We all want tech till its someone we know then we dont want it or want make a reason why its not that bad.

I agree they need to tech harder around here to level the playing field. I mean its not very hard to tech shocks? That should be a pre race inspection. What would happen if you go claim a guys shocks and they are illegal?

It is great that they are teching cars at tracks. That's what keeps everyone honest. But I think the point everyone is missing here is the fact that Timms' shock was legal according to the rules, but they dq'd him anyway for not complying with the "spirit" of the rules. What does this mean? Then this R. Mills person, whom I can only assume was one of the tech people, calls Timms' a prick for standing up for himself. All Timms did was hang up his shock along with the page out of the Speedway catalogue that proved it was a legal shock. I believe the message written beside it said something to the affect that if you are running this shock, you will be dq'd for not being within the "spirit" of the rules. If racing tech is not going to follow the published rules, then why tech? I am quite sure Timms didn't drive all the way to Houston from OKC to run illegal. He is a business owner and I am sure he doesn't have the time to waste to try to run something illegal. Besides that, they are building sportmods now and how would running illegal benefit car sales? Yes, I am a Timms fan. Yes, I was at the race.

yep, vacuum and compression. no one wants their feelings hurt.
I tell you what, you promise good teching and not "fair," and I might come. I'm tired of traveling out-of-town to run against cheaters.
In my book, Battleground Speedway set the standards for teching Limiteds last weekend and it's high time other tracks follow suit.
I know you don't want to scare anyone off, but the "legal" folks have everything to gain. We need confidence in rules, and we got that Saturday night. Myself (Paul White-driver) and Mr. Melton were the last ones teched and we came from 9&10th to 4th&5th. That is making a statement from a racetrack.
If you want to win here, you must follow the rules first. I hope that becomes the mind set for all the future Limited "Big Shows." Good luck.

I would have to agree with this post from another forum.

Those shocks are not legal. here read the rules:

Shocks must be steel. "Must use stock type shock ends" . May weld or screw stock ends on shocks. The stock shock frame mounts must be used in the original stock location. One shock per wheel. May use spacers when mounting shocks. Air shocks not allowed.

as u can tell in photos they are not stock ends the are heim joints.

These shocks have no rod end bearing in them. They have rubber bushings with steel sleeves. IMCA has said they are LEGAL. I talked to the regional tech man and he said they were LEGAL. We are glad they did tech on the cars. The flyer said IMCA rules apply and we had no idea they would say the shock was illegal. We have plenty of other shocks we could have had on. It would not do us any good to put illegal parts on our cars and try to sell them. I hope everyone starts to tech cars every week. Feel free to call me if anyone has any questions. Looks to me that randy timms and his crew used their head. The same thing every racer does every weekend. Sounds like some racers were out smarted and cried foul. By the way I do know Randy and Jeff.

And I answered that guy on that forum by saying that the Tootise Smith Memorial Race -- 3rd Annual event being held at Ark-La-Tex Speedway on August 21st, a ONE-day show paying $3000 to win LIMITED Modified race on NO entry fee -- already set a high standard of it's own in the tech department. Ask the ones who ran it last year at Texarkana. Same tech man will be heading-up the tech crew doing the Ark-La-Tex race too. Last year's winner was an IMCA guy from Corpus Christi -- about 10 hours away!!!

ok I talk to Dave the "IMCA" guy too. and he did say he talked to western flyer guy and didnt have a ans for him. Then said BRETT ROOT gave him a shock lession and you CANT run any muti dirc shock ends and that the ends would have to be changed on the afco take apart to run them. So guess those tech guys did their job. If thats the shock he had.

glad someone finally researched and found the truth. It doesnt look like a legal shock in the pic...

cant blame timms for pushing the envelope but he shouldnt be upset if he gets called on it!!!

I hope Milt checks on the issue Sunday in Enid. He could do a pre race inspection for this issue. So, if people has this styleof shock they can get them changed before the races and not get DQ.
