Cool shot.
Kind of amazing looking at how much the safety stuff has evolved. No Butlerbuilt seat, window net, mud screen, side body panels, and not sure how much that padding would work. However, we all survived without it BITD!

How many would be here today and alive to be a ripe old age if we would have had it. Just the arm restraints alone saved how many broken arms etc. over the years.

Yeah, but realistically, how many drivers back then would have used all that stuff it weren't manditory? Drivers back then meant it when they called that bar he's got from the cage to just above the pittman arm a "Sissy Bar".
Heck, the Little Monkey got run over on the left side of the cockpit at I44 a month ago and the other guy's right rear hit him in the elbow (and bent our airbox). We have a sissy bar on the right side but nothing on the left.
I can attest that padding has all the shock absorbancy of the tubing it is surrounding. The electrical tape holding it on has more impact absorbing characteristics than the pad. But remember, ten years earlier than this, we were sissies for having roll cages altogether.
Ah the good old days. Great pic.
