This is Gilberts grandson Jesse Keith. I was just wanting to post the link to his obituary here so anybody interested can read it.

The graveside service will be Wednesday morning at 11 at Highland Cemetary in Lawton. I hope as many old friends of his can make it as possible. He will be dearly missed and was truly one of a kind.
Jesse

David,
Thanks for the kind words about Gilbert. One day my Dad and I were talking and I asked him who his favorite driver was out of all the races we have been to,without a pause he said "Gilbert Hutson". My Dad and Gilbert knew each other from way back. My Dad's name is Gilbert also and both are 88 years young. Gilbert's service was very nice, just like a trophy dash, short and sweet. That is how Gilbert would want it. I would like to thank Gilbert's family for using one of my photos of Gilbert packing the track to use on the hand outs at the service.

No, not that one even though that is my favorite one. This is the one of Gilbert in the Parson super waving from 1976. He does have a cigar in his hand in this one too.

As much as he was known for his cigars, he told me he quit them in '79. It was almost as if he was born with one attached to his hand from what I heard. LOL
The older drivers from the era have and had a lot of respect for his driving talent. Whatever suited his situation, from way back, he put his hand to and rose to the top of the hunt. Or to put it this way, there wasn't a big enough fish in the pond to bother him.

Didn't know who took that picture but we had it narrowed down to the pic we used and another picture in the same Super more profile of his face with a cigar sticking out of his mouth so Im sure thats your picture too. We all decided the one with him waiving would be better.
Just because he said he gave up the cigars back in 79 don't think he didn't still smoke a few throughout the years. I can remember seeing him smoke some and I was born in 80
