Cecil Satterwhite brought in his '70 Chevy 1 ton to complete the look for us.

Summary-

The promoter likes these cars as an added draw for a slow part of the season. The week before they had ASCS sprints, and usually the crowds drop after that when the season is close to the end.

These old race cars give people one more reason to come out to the track. It also highlights the Legends passed, and the ones that are still with us. this promotion works for everybody.

I got the letter from anonymous donor up to the announcer the other night and let them open it when the time came.

Turned out it was a cash reward for the 'longest distance traveler'. It came out to be a toss up between Vernon, El Reno, and.......Springer, yesssss where I'm from.

Springer won. We won $100. That came in handy for gas and food home.

Thank you "Anonymous Donor".

Great time at the red clay oval in Lawton America. We had 9 cars show up , 4 100" supers, 2 '55 Chevies, a '48 Ford, '37 Chevy coupe, and a '33 chevy coupe.

Since the passing of Gilbert Hudson recently, there were many stories about him,and the old days. It was nice to see the crowd remember and the newer fans take such an interest.

It was an unofficial Gilbert Hudson Memorial. Godspeed Gilbert

Stirred up interest strongly for 3 others to get working on their own cars to bring out.

Lawton promoter Charles Lupi wants an annual event at this time of the year each year. He wants to expand the idea and bring in more cars.

GUYS- THAT'S THREE TRIES, THREE RETURN INVITATIONS!!!!!!

It may look like not very many fans in the stands, but when this photo was taken it was early. The stands were almost full when our guys ran their cars and the fans really gave them a great ovation when they finished running their cars. It was a great night for us old guys. Thank you guys for bringing your cars to Lawton last night. Good job Brian.

Mike

Wish Lupi had mentioned something about all this going on at Grandpa's funeral Wednesday. We don't make it out to the races much anymore so didn't know that any of this was going on. I would've liked to have seen the old race cars. Sounds like it was a good time.

To be fair, Lupi had no idea of how many were coming or what to expect, and this was all done in short order. He does not like to promise more than what is reasonable.

He wants to make this an annual event.

Gilbert was in many conversations last night, MANY. All good memories too.

Come down to Wichita Falls Oct. 17, we're looking to end the year down there and look towards next year.

A few things that happened-

I had 90 year old gentleman feeling up the super we brought, he was almost blind and he was hoping he could figure out who's car it used to be, or rather- who the car itself was.

I met Joe Farley and he informed me he used drive a little. Like, uhhh.,,, yeah he did.

Johnny Stinnet caught me in a corner and we had a discussion about the old days. Good to see Johnny doing well.

Had a heck of time keeping the kids out of the coupe, finally I reasoned they couldn't beat it up any worse than it already was.

oh, and this one.....................

Earl Hall gets off of work in Kansas City I guess Saturday morning at 1:30 am, drives straight through to pick up his Dad, and run to Lawton just to see the show!
