Rodger Ward , 2 time Indy winner, was born in Beloit, Kansas and started racing midgets at Wichita Falls in the late 40's? I thought that was cool.

Johnny Rutherford was from Coffeyville, KS before he was a Texan too. Rodger moved to California with his family as young boy. Johnny was a little older maybe teen years??? There was also a formula one driver from Kansas City, KS or Lenexa or one of the KC suburbs, but his names slips my old brain memory banks. And of course AJ Sheperd was from Wichita.

Don't forget the Mears clan from Wichita. I didn't pull up the picture, but the dad (Bill??)raced jalopies. before they moved to the left coast. Don't think Roger and Rick were old enough to race(or not even born) at that time. Warren has pix of the dad in cars from the 50's

If you can't fit a v-8 60 into your midget, you can go this route?

$1500 in the mid to late '30s was equivilant to just under $22,000 today.
A $30 payoff then would be close to $450 today.

I don't know why I always forget about Billy Mears and the Mears family? Every once and while when they are interviewing Casey Mears Bill will be in the picture. That is always a thrill to me.
