Lloyd Ruby in the 58 CAE sprintcar. That would be period correct. That will be priceless.

Hold on, don't get that rumor started.
I'm sure Lloyd would like to but nobody ever said anything about that being pursued.
Don't put it past him though!

A few things that are restricted--
wings-not allowed on track- If you HAVE TO HAVE a wing, display only. No tolerance
Sprint tails- the shell has to be at least of the same dimension as a 35 gallon tank or larger. (in the future if we have enough for 2 divisions of cars from the '68-'87+ eras, we will look to separate the latter era cars from the earlier.)

Brian, On that #9 car above. I e-mailed you or posted it here somewhere. It appears that sticker on the car is from New Paris Ohio not Iowa. I looked the shop up on the internet and it is still in business.

I think the idea should be to get as many cars out as you can, and to have fun. KAR has a wire wheeled sprinter running a 2.3 Ford...alot cheaper than an Offy, sounds just the same, and it lets go, can replace it over a weekend. Guys that have been lucky enough to find a complete, vintage car will probably keep it like it was, but if it is missing parts, more than likely calipers, wheels, radiator, etc will be later eBay replacements. The spectators and racers will see the cars for what they are. The only real sticks in the mud are things like vintage bodies on metric chassis and down tube sprints. Someday, they will be vintage, but not quite yet. But, if they show up, I don't think they should be turned away. 30-40 cars from soup to nuts will be a better show than 10 pure vintage. Some even question how much spit and polish should be on a vintage car....how much chrome to too much??
Thats the neat part about exhibition "racing". When the people look at the cars, the real authentic ones will stand out even in a crowd.

Well said.
When I state a "rule" or a "restriction", it's based on conversations I've had with every single person about this deal. Not one time did anyone even mention a modern day sprint tail being on the agenda for them to run. Still, just because a tank is smaller than what the Champ cars really ran is no reason to turn away anybody.
We want the most cars that do represent what we relished from our youth. Keep in mind, there are many purists that lurk here often just to see what's up. Their decisions are based on what is said here. SHOULD we get to where we allow everything, we'll lose the purists. Lose the purists, you lose the fringe purists too. That will leave them enough to start a competing show and effectively cut the car counts in half(I'll be running with them). Negative growth means negative drawing power as well.
We have a unique situation here----- Many expenses have been waivered just so that we'll show up in a non-drama fashion. I do know that those who have held shows have spent a lot of money and time getting ready. We
have spent a lot of money and time getting our cars ready. I personally have 2 that will not embarass me when the day comes. They're not show cars, but they have some good stuff.
Now, on the flipside-
Get in my position and see how "uncanny" it is that things seem to work out simply because it's all based on the power of a unilateral dream that has not come to reality yet. Hear these people, keep their thoughts in mind, live it.
Conservative adjustments are necessary so that the show can breathe and live to a second occurance(as in 2nd annual).
What do we have right now? Well we have 2 tracks to run on(both want 2 dates at least), insurance in gear when we get there(still may be a pit pass involved), a videographer to film the whole thing for very little profit simply because he loves these cars too. We have a large base of cars out there, more than we thought that are either ready or will be to some degree(that growth has increased due to this thing of ours). T-shirts? Being looked into by a very knowledgable individual. We have a lot of people out there that will come JUST to see these cars, especially if they are an undercard to modern day racers-more bang for the buck.
There is more. The power of the draw and the dream we've had from the outset, has opened doors for us like few others get to see. These shows are built on honor and positive activity. Throw in a bunch of cool cars like ours, you will find a few people have been craving this.

So now I ask you,
If I want to go see a 27 gallon sprint tail with twenty plus other 27 gallon sprint tails, WHY would I need to come see a show like ours? Our draw comes from distinguishing ourselves from modern day racing---inso that we can have fun, mingle, and keep the history alive---the youngsters need this so that they'll have something to measure themselves to. JUST LIKE WE DID.....................yet a few grownups need this just to have a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
Still, it's not grounds to turn away someone if they have one on a vintage/classic/obsolete/? race car.
Supermodified promotes modified. Modified promotes coupes and sedans. Coupes and sedans promote vintage sprints and midgets. Vintage sprints and midgets promote Champ cars. Here, Champ cars run with supermodifieds, thus Champ cars promote supermodifieds.---Have all this stuff going, you then start seeing your childhood heroes(the ones that are still alive) I know one guy who has more than one supermodified on the docket to be finished just to be a part of this thing. His true love is an old coupe. I've got some fairly decent stuff in my yard people like to look at, guess where they all go to?---My Dads old stick/torch welded, 6 banger coupe. I have said many times this is really about 'fathers to sons', and in that spirit I will have that coupe in my possesion until the day I am dead.
Keep in mind, pushing the envelope leads to setting a precedent. It is up to us to decide where the envelope goes. Who's in charge? We all are, yet no single one. I am only a messenger.

At this early date I say" run what you brung",there will be plenty of time in the future to decide what is acceptable and what is not.I think we should focus on getting through our first "season",so there will be a second season. It appears we are all headed in the same general direction.

Run what you brung until you actually form a club. Maybe different classes for those coupes and sedans cause those guys really race from Nebraska and Missouri and there is a few in NW Arkansas?

Yes we are headed in the same direction, for some reason it seems like it is time to do it. It's a movement. We all want a second season.
For the people reading this, drhesta has spent a lot of time, finances, and effort to put fourth some very impressive cars that well fit this genre. He is a true credit for this to even happen down here.
My vote is, it's a Champ car, bring it like it is. I know the guy working on it, it's still going to be a nice car either way.

Yes we'll have to have different classes for the coupes/sedans. Different classes for vintage/classic midgets and sprints.
The tricky part is to figure out who is willing to run with who or what.

With apologies to Don Edmunds and Gil Johnson as well as my Uncle, this frame called for an altered body. I worked on it until it spoke to me. For this year, the best of my stuff will most likely be going into this car---38 Special
You ought to see the truck and trailer he has to go with it! It would be a headturner.

I posted on the other thread that we'll be looking at reduced rates for motel rooms for our guys with cars.
Also, security at the track is not a problem from what I've seen. I'll be sleeping with the cars anyway in my motorhome. Don't worry, I NEVER CARRY A BAG OF SUGAR AND ALL MY TOOLS ARE METRIC..........i won't be able to steal parts in the moonlight.

This car was originally built for Tom Pace and Don Palmer in Amarillo ,and driven by my dad Eugene Hair. The car was a rocket!

Here's the scoop,
Saturday- Car show, swap meet, arts and crafts will likely open at no later than 8 am. Early birds won't have a problem getting in.
Car show- Vintage race cars will be together, looking to bring in the local customs and restoration cars too- 8 am-5pm--come and go as you need.
Expect a restoration award- Looking for the right unbiased Judge, for the Vintage race car class
Peoples Choice award- says it all.
Actual judging could be mid-day, peoples choice is all day as the votes are not closed until 5pm.
Swap meet- 8am-5pm , in front of the big building on top of the hill.
1. All spaces are going to be 12'x25'
2. First come first served
3. No fees for spaces- First year only, next year may have to charge a decent, fair fee.
4. ALL swap meet vendors MUST HAVE at least %50 of their load pertaining to automotive related items.
Arts and Crafts- 1. Same as above
2. same as above
3. same as above
4. ALL Arts and Crafts vendors MUST HAVE at least %50 of their load pertaining to Arts and Crafts, Antiques etc.

Saturday, May 16, continued
5pm
1.Pit gates open
2. For each vintage race car, both it and the driver gets in free to the pits. Still you MUST sign in.
3. Small trailers only on the infield pit area- yes there is lots of room, safe room
4. Provided we get enough cars of the 100" wheel base formula, -- no wings allowed
a. 2-3 hot lap sessions
b. 3 heats- fast heat for those more experienced
c. Exhibition feature- No trophy, no purse, if everybody you got close to went home unbroken, you are a winner. Just have fun.
d. Slower cars to the inside, stay there, ---fast cars pass on the outside.
---Safety harness, firesuit, helmet required.KEEP IN MIND-- This is not a race, contact hurts our car count in the long run, which in turn hurts what we are trying to do right now. Any abusive driving will not be tolerated, this even means 'me'.
---Let's keep our egos 'in check' and bring this class back to life in these parts!

Sunday,
We will respect the nearby Church and not start the open track sessions until 12:30 pm. By 'open track', we mean we can either run in groups of like minded cars or just 2 cars at a time, spaced away or close, you state your preference.
We will be winding things up at 5pm, the nearby Church opens at 6pm.
Any questions?

I got a question. Anyone have a 100" car they want someone with experience to drive, I would love to get back in one.
