It looks like wind for this Fridays Outlaw show in Oklahoma is going to be 20-30 with strong gusts during the day and 15-25 in the evening. Does the WoO have a wind speed limit for canceling races?

I don't know if I've ever heard of a race cancelled due to high winds. I know I've been to races In really gusty conditions.

It's happened a few times. Ladt fall at 81 speedway in Kansas the races were canceled due to high wind. I think it was high 30's gusting to 40 but can't remember..

Interesting. I wonder if it was due to car safety or an expected small crowd because of the windy conditions?

A number of years ago they Williamsgrove had the same thing happen.  Cancelled due to high winds.

didn't an All Star race at Outlaw Speedway south of Muskogee get called off due to it being too windy?

my dad says the Outlaws once cancelled a race at the old Oklahoma City Fairgrounds track due to wind conditions.

I remember a race being canceled for wind in like '97 in Oklahoma City could be off a year or so. If I remember correctly it's usually like when it starts to rain, run till someone crashes then decide its too sketchy lol

We lost one at King Speedway in Hanford, CA two years ago this weekend because of the wind.

Must be 20mph with 40 mph gusts because that's what we are looking at here in OK and we just got canceled

In their defense, by the 10, 7, 5, 3 and day before the races forcasts for both races last weekend it was 70-90% rain, but the weather changed and both races got in, so forcasts are hit and miss.  Damned if they cancel early and the forcasts changes and Damned if the forcast doesn't change and have to cancel on race day.

They just keep making half assed decisions.

Then at least try to run the show.  Everybody is already there.

Kind of like the cluster fluck at Kennedale last week.  The light problem was a problem that took time to fix, I understand that.  Why did it take from 9:00 to 12:15 to run qualifing, heats and prelim features. They screwed around running the program like it was their first time. Funny they didn't bring in some clown cars to participate for a side event to waste more time.

I bet Mike Hess would have finished the complete show before midnight just because he can actually organize and knows how to run a race program.

Does Kennedale count as a 2 day show now?

Ya last week was just glad they stuck it out and got it in.   2 day show I meant at paige when forecast was horriblle 2 weeks ago not last week  Like I said  though no matter what tracks and series do it's not enough is all, dang shame.

Sad part is all they have to do is run it like a professional series should be run. Can't they find a leader? Just one would make a world of difference. I thought with HL coming into the game they would step up the quality of their product but instead they look like the new comers.

Start late and still can't have the next event ready to roll out.    Maybe they should go spend some time at  weekly races at places like Plymouth Wi and learn how to run races back to back.

All the talk about taking sprint car racing to the next level.......What does that mean?  Actually running a show like a profession organization with 40 some years of experience should be able to.  WoO needs to figure out how to run a race program.  Don't talk about all the time that the tems need to get the car ready. They are supposed to be professional racers and they are not racing out of an open trailer with only friends to help.  Groups just make up excuses instead of improving things. Maybe HL will. I know my brother went to most of the HL races last year and he said the aura feels completely different than most outlaw shows feel. Hell, they flew to Lernersville and then saw the features at Beaver Dam Wi the same night on the way home.

I have never heard anyone bitch the races got over to early.

A 24 hour forecast is only about 80% accurate.   A three day forecast is nowhere near that, especially where it concerns actual wind speeds or precipitation.   Calling it 3 days ahead of time would have been stupid.

Yes it does.    We get it, you're a WoO hater.   Don't worry, we all know how perfect the top level of sprint car will be with Sweet and Larson running it and we all know they will never make any mistakes...

I had that conversation with a driver one time about a race at the Jackson Speedway before it became the Motorplex and walls put up around the track.  The wind was strong enough to cause cars to change lanes on the backstretch.  Not so good when they're side by side at 120.  It's a legit thing that has happened elsewhere.

I have never gotten that bent out of shape about having to watch something besides racing on TV.  Were you there last night?  One time my son and I drove the three hundred to Knoxville and it rained out when we were just north of Des Moines.  We headed to Jackson and they rained out as well.  After about seven hundred we gave up and had a good laugh about the experience.  Apparently I guess we don't take missing a race due to circumstances out of our control that seriously.
