No, not that one- he owns The All Stars and has cut back on sprint car racing.

No- not that one- he went back to NASCAR after the noise died down and hasn't been as good in a sprint car since.

Hey- if we can have multiple threads about Stewart or Larsen any time they have good (or bad) night, we can have multiple threads about Dave Blaney-right?

A couple of notes from watching the victory lane celebration-

They put a purple collar that says 'Hoosier' around Blaney's neck as he was trying to get out of the car. I guess that's so it shows up in the official photo of the winner? I haven't noticed that before. Maybe a rubber stamp that says 'Hoosier' in the middle of the forehead would be more effective?

Dave didn't do the silly 'climb on the wing because it's expected at each WoO race' thing. He stood on the back tire and decided that was enough for him. Maybe it's time to come up with some new 'traditions' when a guy wins a race.

The Hoosier neckband has been a thing for many many years.

Also who cares how people celebrate wins. I'll never get why people on here get all upset because drivers celebrate in a way they don't like, or wear hats they don't like. Let them celebrate however they want.

You're right, but I think you're looking at it from the wrong perspective. If a guy (or gal) wins, let him (or her) celebrate the way he (or she) wants to.  With the WoO it seems like the winner is darned near required to "go up top" and "do the wing dance" after a win. Maybe if you're a platinum WoO member, it's in the contract? Smile

I think of Dave as a Sprint Car driver who went to NASCAR after twenty years in Sprints and raced there a bit towards the end of his career.  wink

You can thank Jeff Swindell in the Payless Hardware & Rockery #11x circa 1989 for inventing the wingdance.

He even trademarked it. He gets paid like $25 when some other driver does it.

Second that opinion.  Dave going to NASCAR put the whole family in a better situation than a Sprint Car career would have and at the end of the day it's about making a living.  As he himself said in an interview "I got to race against some of the NASCAR legends and I even got paid to do it".  wink

I think of the "wing dance" like the burnout in NASCAR.  It was cool the first few times but they both have definitely run their coarse in my opinion.

Boy Murph, you're kinda all over the place.

That guy who hasn't been as good in a sprint car------has hardly raced in a sprint car----so that makes perfect sense.  On a side note, he's been pretty damned good in the car he has been running every week.

Multiple threads about Blaney would be appropriate as he just pulled off the win of the year.  Before that, not so sure.  I get the sense that you are upset Larson gets multiple threads----win or lose----and other, mediocre drivers don't?

Hoosier's collar?  I'm assuming this is a shot at corporate America being involved in our grass-roots sport?  I am assuming Hoosier spends enough money to have one main demand----put the purple Hoosier collar around the winner's neck.  Small price to pay for financial support of the sport.  Seems to be a lot of folks complaining about purses, facilities, etc, etc, and then talking out the other side of their mouths when it comes to those companies that are actually supporting those purses and facilities.

Wing dance?  Who cares how each driver wants to celebrate?  Blaney on the right rear?  He's pushing 60 years old.  I don't blame him.  I'm going to assume he's climbed the wing before.  I don't think anyone really cares that he didn't this time.  I'm just happy he got the win and scored the upset.  Not because the Outlaws are "the evil empire" but because it's nice to see the underdog win.

All over the place? You got me there! The trick is to not take me too seriously. I probably should have started a third Dave Blaney thread....

The win was awesome.

I don't care that Larsen, or Stewart, or whoever gets multiple threads. They deserve the recognition. And yeah, I guess that Larsen guy is doing OK. I don't really know because I don't follow NASCAR.

The Hoosier thing, I found funny. I fully understand the need for sponsorships and all, but that's the best they could come up with? Watch the video for the funny part, though. As Dave gets out of the car, 2 guys jump in there to put on the collar!  To be fair, I didn't remember they were using Hoosier in the WoO until I saw that.

The wing dance is an opinion thing. I think it looks silly and contrived. I just don't feel that every winner pops out of the car and thinks the first thing they need to do is the over-done wing dance. Was it Tyler Walker that did the flips in victory lane? Maybe all the winners should do that?

Always root for the underdog. Heck, I remember a time that a former NASCAR driver won half a dozen or so WoO titles, half a dozen or so Knoxville Nationals titles and a whole bunnch of sprint car races.

Just be glad this isn't another glhayden thread.... Dave Blaney, Wassup?

Or another BStrawser26 Port Royal cheerleader thread. (Yes, I know.)

Mixed feelings on the wing dance.  On the one hand as a former photographer those victory lane wing dance shots are always well received.  From the prospective of the old fan mostly watching on tv these days they look kind of lame.

The Hoosier thing is funny. Finacially supporting the sport? I kind of think it's the other way around. Why do they need the winner to advertise for them when that's the only tire the series allows?

Reading these Dave Blaney posts here and on Facebook has reminded me of the first sprint car race that I saw. Lou Blaney, Gus Linder and Mitch Smith driving for John Regester showed up at Port Royal with sprint cars when they were running the super modifides. Port would not allow them to run but put up $100 winner take all for a ten lap exibition. Mitch (my favorite at the time) was kicken ass and broke the rearend. I don't remember who of the guys won it.

Dave was only a start and park towards the end of his career. He never won at the Cup level but he did have 28 top 10's in his Cup career. He also had a win in the Busch series or whatever it was called back then.

He did okay, had some good runs in middle of the pack equipment. He had the car to beat at Atlanta one year and had he won that, I think he'd have had a much different career. People forget how good he was in a sprint car because he was down there that long.

Glad Dave didnt do the wing dance.  Didnt want a repeat of the Danny Smith incident.  I cant believe we havent had more accidents from this.  No way in hell Id ever do it.  Scared of heights.

I love the Hoosier bands.  Have several from dash wins.  Love them just as much as my trophies.  Maybe more.
