This may happen with Lucas Oil expanding slowly , but TV hasn't figured out how to bring it live entirely or maybe we would see more . Streaming is good but not the total answer I think .

Put starters on them for starters.
Sprint car races on TV suck because they take too GD long to push off.
Before you get all bent, it's no different than Top Fuel drag racing or motorcycle roadracing. Awesome to be there live, sucky to watch from your couch.

Why do guys think Sprintcar racing needs to be pushed to the next level, what good will that do? I'm glad every man woman and child does not know what a Sprintcar is. Be careful what you wish for, I don't want big corporations to become involved in my favorite form of racing, or suddenly we have the NASCAR Sprints. You think that will bring down the cost of owning a Sprintcar? The only ones who will be able to afford to race will need huge national sponsors like the Nascar racers do. That would do more harm then good. It ain't broke, stop trying to fix it.

Not getting bent, but If I live in Pa and want to watch the winter heat in Az and getting there to see it live is impossible, I get a lot more enjoyment watching from couch compared to not seeing it at all. To compare 2 cars going straight for a quarter mile to 24 cars sliding on dirt is a pretty far stretch. Drag racing is just as boring in person as it is on tv. If your to impatient to wait the 5 mins it takes to push start the cars, drag racing is probably right up your alley, enjoy.

The problem is sprint car racing in general does not get the money, sponsers, or respect that they deserve! I go to both local 360 and 410 races and World of Outlaw races for about 30 years. I live in Northern California and we have many tracks and races for most of the year and yet most people have no idea what a sprint car is or have never been to a race! I live 10 minutes near a track and my friends had no idea that there was racing every Saturday night! I think the most insulting thing is that Nascar gets all the money with sponsers and TV time, yet it is very boring to watch! Shoot Sprint should be the main sponser of the WoO, not Nascar! We all know how great sprint car racing is we just need to tell and show everone else by having races on TV, commercials, advertising, or any other means of promoting! Things are so bad that a friend thought my sprint car sticker was a space ship- true story! She thought i was some kind of Treke! Oh yeah and i think my uncle drives one of those things, ha ha sure! You mean you like to watch a car drive around in a circle that makes lots of noise and you get really dirty with a bunch of rednecks! Yup pretty much, but going to a race is soo much more and well its one of my favorite things to do on a Saturday night with my family!
|
Sprint car racing has never worked well on TV and there are good reasons for it. TV doesn't bring out the sounds, smells, sense of speed, or leave you with tire rubber in your ears! Sprint car racing is only exciting when experienced live. The other factor there is that a 30 lap sprint car feature only lasts about 7 1/2 to 8 minutes of green flag time. Heats only last a couple of minutes. How much action is there to show in the average WoO show? So what you wind up with is the rest of the time taken up by driver interviews and commercials. No thanks.....

Then they're not sprint cars. They don't take long to push off at Knoxville because every car already has a push truck waiting behind it. It has nothing to do with not having starters.

I look at it a bit different. I like seeing history being made. I grew up hearing stories about Weld, Opperman, Mitch Smith, Smokey and all the guys who raced before I was born and I wish I could go back in time and watch those guys race just once. I grew up watching all the big names from the 90's and 2000's and even if it got a little predictable seeing Rahmer win all the time or watching Mark Kinser come into Pa and dominate like he did, I still appreciate the fact that I got to see them in their prime. I see Schatz the same way. He's doing things right now that will be talked about for as long as sprint cars exist and I'm glad to say I got to see some of that greatness in person. Don't get me wrong, when the WoO tow into Central Pa, I'm ALWAYS hoping to see a Posse guy take the money but I don't leave disappointed if Schatz wins because like I said, I feel fortunate to be able to see one of the top 3 greatest of all time do things with a sprint car that few others can or have ever been able to do. I do think we're going to see Shane Stewart put some heat on him and I have no doubt Pittman will return to form and depending on how things work out with the Roth 83, Saldana could become a real force again as well. He's certainly capable. I don't see any of them permanently dethroning Schatz but it definitely won't get any easier for him.
|
Yea, I can see the history part. Seeing Schatz win from 21st or whatever a few years ago at Knoxville Nats was amazing. The thought actually crossed my mind to stop going to sprint cars cause I'd never see anything better again...... nah. Went to Kokomo Smackdown instead of Knoxville last summer
I never saw the legends you mention either. But with several of them competing at the same time, I suspect competition was more intense

Thats a good point too. Big $$$ ruins lots of things. What comes to my mind is American music. Back in the day small labels like Sun Records & Stax/Volt in Memphis would find local talent, test out the songs on neighborhood kids, & guys would sell records out of the trunks of their cars. Now its all manufactured, over commercialized & over hyped. Lost a lot of its soul.
But the flip side is the economic pressure to grow or die.....
No more Stax or Sun, as far as I know

I would be happy with the Outdoor channel deal watching an hour long recap of the previous race every Wednesday night. I watched at the local Moose Lodge and had a lot of people interested in it!

100% agreed. Look at what happened to NASCAR when it made it to the "next level". When the day comes that World of Outlaw championships are being decided by "The Chase", I'll be spending my money elsewhere.

Nobody should be worried about the next level of sprint car racing especially if you feel the WOO should take it there. They should be more concerned with the few corporate sponsors who are able to keep the 2nd tier cars on tour. Tony & Kasey & recently Gordon will always throw some of their own $$$ into it, but guys like Sides & Allen clan & even Roth, The Destiny car could be in danger of dropping off the tour at any time due to lack of funding. Not so much Roth but we all know there is no $$$ to be made except for the driver. THE OWNERS TAKE AN ASS KICKING. Even the 15 car I would predictably say lost $$$ last year if not for Tony's super influence with the corporate world.
In due time I feel the All Stars will be the premier tour due to less travel & bigger purses. Just give Smoke his 5 year plan which starts into the 2nd phase this year. JMHO

I love the off....I mean silly season. On one thread we have dire predictions about the mass exodus of teams from the All Stars, on another one we have a statement that pretty soon the All Stars will overtake the WoO as the premier series. Can February please hurry up and get here?

I think if the Destiny car was in trouble they would not have bought a new truck and trailer for the 2016 season....

Live TV has almost always sucked for sprint cars. Most times I watch winged sprint cars on tv and wonder what new fans are going to go to a local track after seeing all the dust from the cameras placed up so high.
Ever watch Dirty 30 on MAV TV? A nice tight 30 minute Open Wheel sprint car show, with quick heat race highlights and then a fully covered feature a couple weeks after the fact. Would love to see WoO do the same thing even if its a week or two behind.
Want to create new fans? Bring a buddy and his kid to the track and buy the kid munchies.

From the time the ball is put in play (snap, kickoff) till the play is blown dead adds up to less than 12 minutes in a 3 + hour long NFL game. The rest is huddles, officials talking, side line reporters talking, talking heads at half time, commercials and replays. So I guess you don't watch Pro football? But the NFL seems to do ok.
Maybe you don't go to sprint car races either cause the down time is the same as it would be on tv. Which you say "no thanks" to!

Nope, rarely watch pro football. And if you'll go back and read my post Einstein it should be easy enough to understand. Racing on TV doesn't give you the same thrill that watching it live does. Let me know if I need to slow that down for you a little more. Of course, you may get a much bigger thrill out of driver interviews than I do.

Dirty 30 is a great half hour. If I remember correctly, wingless are featured prominantly on there. Good stuff for sure
