Corrections to video: We now know that the accident did NOT occur at the SHARK facility, but at a race shop next door. Also, Tyson Perez is one of Travis's crew members, is from Australia and does not work for SHARK. Both are expected to be hospitalized for months.
Please lift up a prayer...

This is kind of becoming a crummy time for sprint car drivers. Hope they make a full recovery.

Travis is such a great guy. I met him when he was just a kid and it's been awesome watching him become the man he is today. We raced all over the country together and we even raced in Australia in 2006. All of your El Paso TX family is praying for you and Tyson. ~Casey Minks~

A fund for Travis and his family and for Tyson is being set up this afternoon at First State Bank of Mesquite, Texas. Tom Lorenz, the owner of Smiley's Racing is starting the fund. Supporters of Travis and Tyson worldwide are encouraged to contribute to the fund. Details shortly on the address of the bank, etc. Please keep those prayers coming . Tyson and Travis are in critical condition in a Seattle hospital. Thanks for helping to spread the word!
God Bless!

Travis Rilat has quietly been one of the most versatile drivers on the planet. See Osky win. See last week... winning with and without wing. Other drivers get more pub (and no, this isn't a competiton, playing favorites or starting something) but Rilat is right there with the most versatile.
It's been a really tough season for fans of the ASCS and this weekend just made it 100 times worse. Mr. Hockett was a treat to watch... and now Wayne Johnson, one of my favorites, and Travis Rilat, another favorite, are bit... and bit hard.
Best wishes to all the injured drivers from any discipline for full recoveries. It's a living and way of life for most of them... and we the fans are better for it.

Please forgive my inaccuracy. I am now told that Tyson's last name is Perez and that the injuries did NOT occur at the SHARK facility, but at the shop next door.

Wow...looks like a fun stunt that went real bad...
SEDRO-WOOLLEY — Two men were seriously injured Sunday evening in an
explosion while trying to “barrel ride” in the parking lot of a shop
that builds and services race cars, said Sedro-Woolley Fire Chief Dean
Klinger.
The men, from out of the state, had placed about four gallons of
methanol in a 55 gallon barrel, sat on top of it, then lit it on fire,
Klinger said.
“Apparently it was supposed to slide across the parking lot like a
rocket,” Klinger said. “Instead it blew up.”
One of the ends of the barrel flew 120 feet outside of Funk Racing at
631 Sunset Park Drive, Klinger said.
The men were severely burned in the explosion, but were responsive when
paramedics and firefighters arrived just before 9 p.m.
The fire had already been extinguished.
They were taken to United General Hospital then flown to Harborview
Medical Center in Seattle.
Klinger did not have the ages or identities of the men or their medical
conditions.

If the newspaper report is true, I'd guess that the alcohol in the barrel was not the only alcohol involved....sad that a stunt like this gets someone hurt...badly......
