The season is almost upon us and although the weather does not seem to be cooperating for a April 20 season opener, the season preview on the IRA's website has me hoping for good things this year. Sounds like there will be several solid contenders for "Rookie Of The Year" and it appears that Balog will not be running the whole schedule either. Glad to see Balog getting a chance to travel a bit, hope he does well. That being said, the door will be open for a new champ. So who will it be? What kind of car counts can we expect? Any newcomers we should know about? The season preview also hints that "Smoke" may even show up at an IRA show this year too!

This weather needs change SOON! It's time to go sprint car racin'!!!

(This thread is obviously unofficial, but what the hell else is there to do right now?)

Sprint car racing in WI can not start soon enough! So looking forward to this season. I'm guessing Mike Reinke will take the points championship. I felt like going in to this year he was on the verge of beating Balog anyway, through sheer consistency. obviously Neitzel is the next most likely. Kertscher would have a good shot as well, if he ran the whole schedule, & could refine his style a bit. he's very fast, but at times out of control, it seems. Really happy to see the new full time cars out there.

May just be rumors, but I heard Reinke will not be running the full schedule this year and Kertscher would be running abour 90%. Something tells me Borland will be a little bit of a sleeper this year. We shall see. Should be a good year and I cant wait for it to get rollin!

man, I think you're right about the #02. I'm a little bummed, he's definitely my favorite WI driver. but, it really does make the points championship interesting. agreed about Borland, he's gotten better year after year. I'd say Phillip Mock has a shot at it too. kind of curious as to which race Tony Stewart will make it to. keyboard jockey speculation; Bill Balog will win at least one WoO A-main this year!

that would be awesome. but, i would bet against it. my guess for championship is phillip. he will have multi wins. add that to his consistency and BOOM BABY another mock championship. jmo.

I think Neitzel's consistency will out run the others if Reinke doesn't run the whole deal. If Reinke does run the whole deal should be a good show down between the #02 and #2w. Neitzel struggled on the Goodyears and I think getting back on the Hoosiers it should be a multiple win season for the #2w. I will believe it when I see it as far as Reinke and Balog skipping an IRA show!

Cool to hear three guys gunning for the Rookie of the year with Jeremy Sherman and Lance Fassbender both past MSA champions and then add in midget racer Bryon Walters. Was hoping to see Scotty Thiel step up to the ROY run but looks like they are back again in the 360 ranks.

Looking at the long range forcast looks real doubtful for the opener at Oshkosh with highs only in the 40's all next week into next weekend and it has done nothing but rain all this week.

I'd like to see Kyle Larson get a "ride" for the Friday night June 21st IRA show in Oshkosh. Kyle will be racing that weekend in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Rd Am which is located about an hour drive from Oshkosh. Sure hope someone can make it happen--if so get there early for a seat.

According to the 02 crew at their fundraiser they will not be running even 75% of the IRA schedule this year. Reinke told me it was kind of a rebuilding year as they are building a competitive engine program.

I would say that if the 02 show's up at the Outlaw show in Beaver Dam they have a chance. Was very competitive last year...a little luck and the 02 would have pulled off the upset!

You have to remember that these guys aren't doing this on a million dollar budget. Slide-jobs can be pretty risky if not done perfectly and I'm guessing that since most of the guys in the IRA are on a budget, they error on the side of caution when it comes to dicing with other cars. Just a guess.

In regards to the Tony Stewart thing, I was looking a bit at NASCAR vs IRA dates and the two Michigan races pair up with Plymouth in June, and Wilmot in August. The Chicago NASCAR date is the same weekend as The Filskov Memorial in Plymouth in September. I'm sure that Smoke's sprint car schedule is highly subject to change, but those 3 dates seem to match up the best logistically anyways.

Since both of those teams are family ran and on a budget I am sure that plays into not putting themselves in position to have to repair a race car. If you notice the guys who are constantly rebuilding cars don't seem to last long in the sport. Both the 02 and 2w are long time supporters of sprint car racing and the IRA.

Steve Sinclair is awaiting your call and check for $5-10,000 to put Larson in a ride for the event. If you want to see it get your wallet out.

Good topic...How long have Reinke and Neitzel been racing 20 + years I remember.

If you are looking for a crash fest bring the 360s. The couple of shows I attended there were alot of junk race cars at the end of the night. Im not sure how they do it. The purse is less. The motors are cheaper, but the amount of cars they junk is unreal. It seems it would be cheaper to run the IRA.

No i do not want a crash fest. but once in a while to win you need to do a slider.I think back spacer is right about being carfull being on a limited budget.Last year I seen the 360s run 4 times. those shows were not a crash fest! thanks for the replys

WIsprinter---FYI---I emailed Steve about this about 8 to 12 days ago. He replied to me that he thought it was a good idea and he would investigate trying to make it happen. He indicated he had contact info for Kyle and "his people". I also gave Steve some info concerning one of Kyle's NASCAR sponsors that has business ties to the area including the Oshkosh to Green Bay corridor.
