in regards to the 2w, 02 & aggressive driving, I have to analyze what you mean by 'slidejob'. If you mean passing someone quickly in a turn by diving low, & then out acceleratingthe competition, I've seen them do plenty of that.
If you mean throwing a hailmary & drifting up the track coming out of the turn whilst spinning your tires & taking up the outside lane, forcing the high side guy to either brake, run in to you, or go low, then no, I haven't seen them do too much of that. they are both fast but do a good job of avoiding destroying their equipment.
luckily we have gunner's youtube channel to refer to many past races!
here's an example of the latter, at the 5:18 mark

If you are looking for a crash fest bring the 360s. The couple of shows I attended there were alot of junk race cars at the end of the night. Im not sure how they do it. The purse is less. The motors are cheaper, but the amount of cars they junk is unreal. It seems it would be cheaper to run the IRA.
|
Remember the 360 class is sort of a starter class that the average person can afford to race, so there will be more inexperience and more wrecks. Some of the best shows i've ever seen were from 360's.

i LIKE MIKE REINKE AND SCOTTY NEITZEL. THEY HAVE ALWAS BEEN NICE TO ME. BUT LETS BE HONEST.i HAVE NEVER SEEN THOSE TWO THROW A SLIDE JOB! I DO NOT THINK THEY KNOW HOW! NO I/m not saying I can do better.but there are more 360 drivers that do slide jobs than IRA drivers and thats a shame.because they say msa 360s are the stepping stone to IRA. but there is more copetition in the 360 ranks than IRA.maybe I am missing somthing If I am incorrect let me know. jim

Been watching the the IRA guys since the mid 60's with Whitey Harris, Al Schill, Roger "Von" Otto, Bill Bohn and even Carmen Manzardo. The IRA guys have made tremendous strides over the past 10 years in becomming more competetive with WOO drivers. I don't feel it's about the budget because some of those drivers (Dodd & Kristan) have definately had enough money to run better. I feel the biggest issues is the IRA guys run smaller tracks where they are more comfortable. IRA drivers do not look comfortable on big half miles or high banked 3/8 miles tracks. (Knoxville, Cedar Lake, Eldora or even Beaver Dam) The more they run on those big, fast tracks, the better, more comfortable and more competetive they will become.
I don't see any IRA driver, and that includes Balog, winning a WOO race this year but it's still fun watching them compete.

The season is almost upon us and although the weather does not seem to be cooperating for a April 20 season opener, the season preview on the IRA's website has me hoping for good things this year. Sounds like there will be several solid contenders for "Rookie Of The Year" and it appears that Balog will not be running the whole schedule either. Glad to see Balog getting a chance to travel a bit, hope he does well. That being said, the door will be open for a new champ. So who will it be? What kind of car counts can we expect? Any newcomers we should know about? The season preview also hints that "Smoke" may even show up at an IRA show this year too!
This weather needs change SOON! It's time to go sprint car racin'!!!
(This thread is obviously unofficial, but what the hell else is there to do right now?)
|
Mr. Balog seems to have plenty of IRA shows scheduled. If this year is anything like last year, he will be right in the point hunt regardless he misses a hand full of shows. I am hoping to see the 2w of Scott Neitzel step up his consistent and safe race pace to be a little closer at the end. As for teams to watch close this year, I would say the 1m of Phillip Mock this team gets better and better every time it hits the track. Watch for the 23 of Russell Borland to make it tough through the year, As the years go on and on his car gets closer and closer to the front. Keep your eyes on the 8a of Nick Alden also, seen on Facebook that this team had a new motor and they would be racing alot more this year. Dont count this car out. I really like the way the Rookie Of The Year contenders are looking as well. Non of them are strangers to racing and all of them know how to win. Then i have a IF THEY group of cars. If they so up, watch these cars. 80k,83d,5,9 and the 3

No IRA guy is ever gonna win woo race! No not Strange Wings. I know who he is though. You hillbillies should be careful! I didn't know the 5 car was back. That Forbrooke car is fast and always has good drivers. 83 must be Kaeding. Saldana is still in the 9 correct? IRA is gonna need some guest appearances from cars like that. IRA has clearly not replenished their talent pool after losing several good drivers over the years.

Well put, those 360's just beat and bang off of one another. Some drivers from that group are good, but there are a greater portion that I wouldn't wanna be racing next to or even around. This season should be interesting like many of you have said but borland really? You guys make me laugh, I do however think mock will do okay... This year look for the 80K to drive over his head. With the 17b running a limited schedual and the 02 as well look for the 2W to be champ. He has the experiance and consistance to do it. But i wouldn't be surprised to see alot of new winners this year. Either way who ever show up and how ever they finish we can all agree we want racing to start! Oshkosh is almost here! I would expect 30 410's and good support from MSA there as well.

The IRA's press release from today definitely makes it sound like, if nothing else, you'll just never know who will be showing up at their shows this year. If they're referencing "Young Money" and "Smoke" in their official releases, I'd say that these rumors are more than just rumors.

That article is a frickin joke. They are saying all time high competition? Total bullshit. It'll be all time low. What a desperate article. Go figure you guys fall for it . The series is unfortunately losing talent and not replenishing it.

Well, that settles it. I guess I'm not going to any IRA shows this year because I've now been enlightened to the truth about the series via Sir Dickless Danger!!!
Serioulsy though, what the hell do you care if it's good or bad? You only leave your parents basement twice a year to go to the WoO and All-Star shows anyways. I guess that makes your opinions irrelevant, much like yourself.

I had a good laugh looking at the past posts from sir dick head. He is just a typical guy who likes to try to stir things up while hiding behind his persona on the message board.
I just hope he stays home in the basement and lets mom feed him as per normal.
See you guys at the track.
I tell it like I see it.

this is awesome; http://www.irasprints.com/news/?i=14938&clk=featureNews
Where there's "Smoke" there's....
With Mother Nature getting the bulk of the IRA headlines this week, as her wrath cancelled Oshkosh and has postponed our opening night excitement for hopefully just one week. All eyes are now focused on Beaver Dam Raceway in anticipation of getting the new season started on April 27th.
Well we with the IRA feel like we need to get people talking about the 2013 Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series in a positive manner. Enough talk about the weather!
We can't think of anything more positive to tell our fans and sponsors than this.....
Tony Stewart will be racing with us on June 15th!
3-time NSACAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart will be piloting his Chevrolet Performance #14 in the IRA portion of the IRA / MSA Sprint Car doubleheader at the Sheboygan County Fair Park's Plymouth Dirt Track on June 15th. How cool is that!
Tony will be making the trek from Michigan International Speedway that afternoon following NASCAR Sprint Cup practice, and then returning there from Plymouth to compete on Sunday afternoon in the Quicken Loans 400. Where there's "Smoke" there's fire, and we couldn't think of a better way to heat things up during these unseasonably cold days we're currently suffering through.
Tony takes his Sprint Car racing serious, and this is one of about fifty or so Sprint Car events he'll be competing at this year, in addition to an all ready very full NASCAR schedule. We with the IRA think it's absolutely great that Tony has the passion for racing that he does, and that he not only gives back to his racing roots, but actually participates in it. There are other potential IRA date(s) being discussed for later in the season, but this date at Plymouth is official so mark it down, Saturday June 15th at Sheboygan County Fair Park in Plymouth, Wisconsin.

The news about Tony is awesome indeed! Other possible dates in the works too. Nice! A lot of great racefans in the Plymouth area, and I'm sure the Fair Park will be mobbed that night.
Also read on Cap Henry's twitter that he had planned on being at Oshkosh on Saturday if not for the rainout. Go figure. And last year we could've been racing easily in the beginning of March...

it's hard to get recognition being sandwiched in between knoxville & Indiana but Wisconsin has some great tracks & some great fans/drivers/cars. We're very lucky to have a local sanctioning body like the IRA. regardless of what some losery trolls might like to claim.
the following friday night is when Kyle Larson would be able to make a show @ Oshkosh. hoping that works out, I think he'll like that track. Went there last year for the first time, & was pleasantly surprised at how fast & racey the track is. nice facility.
my favorites have to be dodge county & 141 though. highly recommended if anyone hasn't been to either.

I agree. Northern Wisconsin has some of the nations best kept secrets for dirt tracks. The red clay up there never dries out and there are some BAD fast joints. Alot of those tracks are used to running door bangers, so the track prep and packing is not always what you would like to see, but they still put on a great show. I wish places like Superior, Ashland, Antigo, Cedar Lake and Rice Lake (One of my favorites by far) had more large open wheel events. Those people in Northern Wisco absolutely love open wheel racing when it comes to town....
