Heard Wayne was taken to the hospital last night at Elma. Any word on how he is?
Thanks
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

Possibly a compound fracture to his leg is what I've been hearing. I'll try to post as soon as I get word from a better source.

Wayne broke a driveline and foot was badly damaged. BTW does anyone know where Wayne is hospitalized. Ricky is concerned and wants to check in on him. You can e-mail me if you don't want it public. [email protected]

Wayne was involved in a really nasty wreck with Shane Stewart headed down the backstretch early in the A main. Wayne's car flipped HARD several times (when the driveline broke). From what I heard, as I was leaving the pits, the right leg is/was in VERY, VERY bad shape. Heard it was pretty much severed. As of 1:00 this morning, the docs were working on the leg trying to save it. Haven't heard anything further.
loganfan, if you still need the info, Wayne was transported to Harborview Hospital, in Seattle (about an hour & a half north of Elma) via Airlift Northwest/lifeflight helicopter. One of the very best trauma centers on the Left Coast, if not the entire country.
Last night was pretty hard to watch. Not only was Wayne taken to Harborview, a Ford Focus midget driver was transported to Harborview as well. 2 other midget drivers were taken to local area hospitals, and a 4th went to the hospital on her own after wrecking, and suffered a mild concussion.

Wow that just sounds flat out horrible. I was wondering why he wasn't running Knoxville last night. ASCS says he is expected to make a recovery after undergoing surgery on this page. http://www.ascsracing.com/racenotes.asp?ID=58470&yr=2010
This also won't help his money and equipment situation at all, which is very unfortunate.

Erin has arrived at the airport in Seattle. I'm sure she update all of us with accurate information ASAP. She has to get to the hospital and get the information gathered so please be patient. It's been a long day and sleepless night for her so give her some time.

This is terrible and devastating news. Fortunately doctors can do amazing things even with the very worst of circumstances. Hoping for good news and a day when Wayne can get back in to a 410.
One other thought. While I've been a sprint car fan for a very long time and believe that I'm fairly knowledgeable, I don't know a lot about the fine workings of a sprint. Why is it that there isn't technology available to protect a driver when a drive line breaks? May be there is and guys aren't using it. If they aren't, then shame on them.
Again I'm hoping for the best....

There was some very violent wrecks last night. The one with Wayne I caught the tail end of it, but will not be uploading video of it.
We had 2 seperate midget wrecks down the front stretch that were really hard, the first one, Bailey Studer, I think was taken to the hospital with leg pains. I haven't spoke to her yet, so I dunno what the case is. I did hear a few things, and that she was going home, but I don't know yet. Hopefully shes doing ok. I caught this one on film, but I am very hesitant on posting this too, so I dunno, might wait a few days before I post videos of last nights race, or just cut them out.
The second one with Jeff Bell was the most violent wreck I have ever seen almost ever. I did catch it on film, but will NOT release it.
Just a rough night, my thoughts and prayers with Wayne, Jeff and Bailey, and hoping for a speedy recovery.
Wayne Johnson is a driver I really enjoy watching. Got to watch him run here at Elma a few times, up at Skagit, and got to meet him at a Sprint Car Seminar at Speedmart up there in Burlington a few years ago. Such a cool guy.

Wayne is out of surgery and all indications are that it went well. Just to clear up some of the rumors, he does have feeling in his foot and it was not amputated. They originally thought they would have to do 2 surgeries but feel fairly confident they were able to make the repairs with just 1. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, concens and prayers.

That's relatively good news ... at least a lot better than some "speculations" I've read.... Thank you very much for keeping us informed with accurate info. Hoping Wayne has a speedy and full recovery!
