Back to the matter at hand. There are some terrific guys who need everyone's help now - be it with prayers and/or financial help. Yes - let's hope someone sets up a fund to help out Wayne & Erin, too. Speaking of Erin -- what a class lady. She is sitting there with deep concerns about her husband but also stops to think about Travis & Tyson. The racing community is indeed one big family. All 3 guys are in trouble.

Thank God Wayne's injuries are not life threatening. It will still be a long and painful recovery for Wayne. Our thoughts and prayers are working overtime for everyone out there - including the midget drivers.

P-Hill Posse I will pray for you that you never do anything stupid and get hurt. It is a cruel world and your words may come back to bite you in the a$$. I agree with you that they were being careless, but it doesn't change the fact that they need our help. Please take some time and really think about what you are saying.

It really is crazy, what with the number of broken drive lines that happen in sprint cars and the incredible damage they cause, that a scatter shield or some type of enclosure are not mandatory.

And even if they are not mandatory, jeez, something whipping between my feet and turning at that speed and with that much force behind it should be a tiny bit of cause for concern with anyone with just a little bit of forethought. Even if it was boxed in a 20 lb shield, would it really change things that substantially in the whole scheme of the world?

Let me guess, P-Hill Posse is Cubic Dollars because he got the boot finally for his ignorance on the Travis Rilat thread. Just hopeful speculation on my part.

As to Wayne, you won't find a nicer guy in the pits and is as underrated a driver as we have in the sport, he gets more from less all the time. One of my all-time fondest Nationals memory is him pulling ahead of Steve Kinser about 3 times in a row on a restart only to have a caution spoil his magic.

Erin, thoughts and prayers are with you as well, Wayne will get through this and will do it with class and a laugh, you take care of yourself. All the very best, Take It Easy....

Tues morning update: Wayne had a much better night last night. They'll be looking at the wounds later today to determine whether the 2nd surgery tomorrow is necessary or not. We're hoping he won't need it but should know more later this afternoon. Paige and I are holding our own. Huge thanks to Seth Bergman and his family for providing her with some constuction paper, scissors and glue sticks: three of her favorite things! We'll have hearts for daddy all over this room by the end of the day. SmileThanks everyone!

Wayne is one of the best guys in the pits at Knoxville. Every time I go to do an interview on the radio, he has rarely said no, and the few times he has, he's had a valid reason. He had the 77X running fast and doing it on very little money. Glad to hear the outlook is better than first thought.

Great to hear Wayne is having a better night.

As for what someone said about Wayne being a nice guy. He is very nice. I talked to him Friday night just for a few minutes, and he is really a good guy. One of my favorite drivers to watch. I am glad to hear he is doing really well.

Tues evening update: It's been a busy day! For the first time today we got to see first hand the injuries sustained when they removed his splint for inspection of the open wounds. We also got to speak to 2 of the surgeons that performed the surgery. The damage is quite extensive and the reality of the injury is setting in. Although we are hopeful for a full recovery, honestly it's a one day at a time effort for now. It is still unknown if he'll have to go back for surgery to do skin grafting. We should know more in a few days after they monitor his progress.

We had several visitors which lifts all our spirits. One surprise visitor was the guy from PT who came with walker and crutches in tow. Wayne quickly chimed in about wanting to go upstairs to visit Travis and Tyson so they hooked him up with a wheelchair to enable him to go. Upon our return we were handing a stackful of emails from folks concerned about him. Very inspiring and uplifting for us both!

Good luck to Wayne, looking forward to seeing him back in the cockpit one day, always loved his driving style.

Wayne is out of surgery and all indications are that it went well. Just to clear up some of the rumors, he does have feeling in his foot and it was not amputated. They originally thought they would have to do 2 surgeries but feel fairly confident they were able to make the repairs with just 1. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, concens and prayers.

great news

Dr. Trammel in Indy might also be able to help?

Wed mornig update: July 21

Today was supose to be a resting day to let the wounds heal and they'll re-evaluate his wounds tomorrow to determine whether the skin grafting will be necessary. But we've been on the gas since about 6am. He spiked a pretty high fever so they are doing extra blood work, chest xrays and some vascular scan to see if there is a clot. His left leg is also showing some wear and tear and has shooting pains. So he is in xray right now to see if the left leg was also fractured or just badly bruised. Will hopefully know more this afternoon.
Also just wanted to say to keep the emails coming. The gal from the hospital just brought in another stack - she said "are these all for you?!?" LOL...
Wayne and I both got to speak to Jerry, the EMT that rode with him in the ambulance and very likely saved his foot. We are both so grateful!!!

Pong, Great News that Wayne was able to be mobile and go up stairs to visit Travis and Tyson. How is Wayne's spirit towards racing right now? Is he bitter towards the sport in any way? I know some guys who have been injured and are pretty angry towards racing in general right after their injury.

If he is in good spirits towards racing, I think we should try to get some dvd's of races or just regular movies in the mail and give him something to watch when he gets a little bit better and try to keep his mind of the injuries. I would assume that the room has a dvd player but if it doesnt maybe somebody can send one and you can get it hooked up for Wayne. I don't have many races on dvds, but I have a few, and im sure theres other folks here that wouldnt mind sending some, or buying new ones from whoever sells them.

Just an idea, and if your interested just supply an address for the hospital up there and maybe we can get some stuff in the mail for you guys.

Thoughts and Prayers are with you all!
