Ed Beckley, despite what some may be telling you about the Street Stock Nationals I believe there are many racers that are still looking forward to this race..Facts are, this race still drew around 70 cars in 2009 with a failing economy with a $200+ entry fee..No other big race they've tried in the past couple of years has drawn this many cars in one class..Another big Stock Car race at OMS Muskogee, Ok late last year also drew around 70 cars with similiar rules.. If you could bring some excitement to the Enid Grandstands and see if Mike Hoffman will return to help with promotion you could see a very successful year atleast with this race and return some prestige to the Street Stocks..Please let us know..Thanks !

I have had emails from drivers in Missouri, Illinois and some other states wanting to know the date for this years Street Stock Nationals. It's the biggest money maker for the track, I hope to see it continue.

I sent Ed a flyer from last years street stock nationals that he asked for, so he is thinking about it.

Enid and the Street Stock Nationals are synonymous. We look forward to it every year! Granted the Street Stock class isn't what it use to be, the show continues to draw in an impressive number of cars from around the country and with some good promotion I know those numbers could grow. There are good reasons the show has continued on for so long, regardless of who has had the track. The Street Stock Nationals have a reputation and prestige to it that few other annual races in Oklahoma have accomplished. The atmosphere is always electric and unlike any other annual race I've been to, the racing is outstanding, and the crowds are always good. The Street Stock Nationals are not just an Enid tradition, but an Oklahoma and regional tradition that I know my family and I are not alone in saying we really hope to see it continue.

Well said Dogwater ! My whole family from Kansas and many more from this area really look forward to this race..Mike Hoffman seemed to be the backbone for this track before they ran him off..Things went down hill fast after that..His action photography shots were awesome !..I bet he would be a good announcer too !

I hope to see the tradition live on, this is a great race.

It would gain even more cars if they would get back to "real" street stocks...lol

Hopefully the tradition will continue!!!

Ed the race in Ada is more of a factory stock race as per the rules. I know that I was asked if I was going to convert my car to a stock 4 link & run it. To me thats just not right to be able to take a street & convert it to have an advantage! Run the historic race in Enid & keep that tradition going! Just my opinion!

From talking to drivers over the past years they have said if the race was held the first weekend of October more cars would show up because there last point race is at the end of September.

ok so........

ya'll are telling this guy that it is a wise financial decision to run a massive 10k to win race for a class of cars in which a double digit car count does not exist in this state? Anyone ever asked the former promoter how much he probably lost on this race in recent times? well thats just speculation - guess I just dont see it.

Not to be the sprint car homer. a big sprint show would be great - but I really think some good modified racing is what is needed in Enid. I mean, that was the feature attraction there for quite some time. I even went to a few and as a sprint car fanatic - left pleased with the mod racing I had seen.

As I have thought for a while. That track became very synonymous with NCRA. The NCRA shows there were always really good. Enough so that the combo of NCRA and Enid were thought of as great racing throughout the region. I remember just a few years ago - 40 or so mods, reasonable purse for both drivers and track (i think lol) - and good racing with NCRA at Enid.

Not trying to advise - but as a fan think it best to crawl before walking. for a multitude of reasons - I think a 10k to win street stock race could be a catastrophic idea. How much support REALLY exists for this event? A track that has had something of a reputation in recent times - and most recently - just shut down. Thats great someone got a few phone calls but......would enough drivers to make this a quality show actually come? maybe. i could allow that. But I am not so sure about the stands considering recent times. remember - this track will not even run weekly. In years past - I'm sure for weeks leading up to the show it was announced to weekly spectators. now - either some serious dough would have to be spent in advertising, further increasing the risk to such a proposed large event, or rely on internet advertising - the upshot to that is that it is free - but will a few thousand race fans read about it and decide to go? forgive my pessimism. I am not doubting that either one would get some fans out - but the amount needed - I'm just not sold. I think it helped Enid in the past to have a good solid base of weekly fans that came out to that show. Hard to say how much of that has changed - but the only certainty is that to at least to some degree - it likely has.

My 2 cents. NCRA mod and sport mod show. The purse is more reasonable for the promoter - and with just common sense - you know you could get good fields. NCRA is and has been building a fan base in this area - and that could largely make up for what enid lost when the track shut down. If done on the right date - not only would you have the stout field NCRA already has in Oklahoma - but you could significatly add to it if done on a date that the Kansas contingent could come. hell - if done on the right date I would even go - as long as not coinciding with an ASCS/ASCS2 show. I always liked the 1 hour trip up from el reno - double that with a pre-race stop at Eischen's in Okarche....good deal. It would likely take an NCRA show to get me to go up there. I would def. go to any sprint show there - duh lol - but with NCRA or USMTS - thats about the only way I could have any confidence it would be a good field. Anything else - frankly - considering certain inescapable facts - I would have enough speculation as to be compelled to wait and see what it gets. But thats just me. Honestly a lot of tracks are struggling to put on quality racing. if its not small car counts - its one lane track surfaces. Maybe many drivers and fans would see any Enid show as a breath of fresh air and head that way.

I would seriously consider attending any sanctioned show up there. SANCTIONED. ASCS or OCRS and I am there automatic lol. But I would dig an NCRA or USMTS show there too. But honestly - everything considered - I would just have too much doubt about anything else. I would prefer sprint cars - but I think at some point an NCRA show is needed there this season. With an NCRA mod show (both classes) - you have the recipe you need for a good show. The drivers, the high value name recognition for that area - thus the fans - and - not 100% sure about this - but I would imagine a purse that would work well for all and be profitable.

So yeah - my 2 cents that turned into a nickel. I, myself, would like to see an ascs race there - on an NCRA off date so as to maximize the field - and also NCRA combined Mod/Sport mod show. oh yeah - and an NCRA Late Model show could be cool too. Man - Enid had some great NCRA shows. Its a tradition that I think should be properly returned....

this is just my entire take on it as a fan. Not big on the 10k to win show for a class of cars with scarce support in this area and at a track that is not running weekly. But I do think 1-2 sprint car specials would be great - and a NCRA mod/sport mod show or 2. maybe a USMTS as well - but with their purse - I think thats reaching. Anyone feel free to weigh in, although I hope respectfully, but I'll disclaim right now - I am not a promoter - just a fan that has seen a little bit of good promoting - a whole lot of bad! lol (havent we all lol).

Sorry Mr. Beckley if my post seems forthright or whatnot - but you did echo being open to ideas/ops - just kind of threw mine into the fray lol.

Don't worry about it. Big Ed will never run a race like the Street Stock Nationals. The purse is too big. He will want the racers to run for little to nothing while the monster trucks tear up infield. I have to admit the trucks will probably draw more people than good racing.

The Street Stock Nationals is gone to Ada. Trying to revive it in Enid is probably fruitless for this year anyway.

Sanctioned races with rules and officials that are going to enforce them is what we are going to open with and that info is forth coming at 1pm today.

And Randy you are probably correct the Monster Trucks would probably draw a crowd and we are working on them in late August or early September.

Huge purses need cars to back them up or a huge name to match......example World of Outlaws two day show we did in June at Dodge City....it worked and it paid $10 grand to win each day. So if the show warrants it I do not mind taking a risk as I have for the last 3 years in Dodge with the WOO shows and NCRA SPRINTS and NCRA LATE MODELS and BST MODS.

I am one about tradition but this one has moved to Ada and I hope they do well with it and I hear yah.

Here is a suggestion and something to consider, OCRS had a date on the schedule for a race in Enid, which was changed to TBA on the schedule after the track was shut down.

The October 16th date on the OCRS schedule is still open. I know that when Enid ran sprint cars earlier in the year that it pulled about 20 cars each night, of which several of those were OCRS cars, when it did not conflict with the OCRS schedule, and I would speculate you could get closer to 25+ sprinters if an OCRS race were to be held in Enid.

I think a late model show in Enid makes more sense than a sprint show. I don't know what the purse is these days for an OCRS show, but Ed you had a Midwest Dirt Late Model Series race that pulled 20 cars in cold conditions. All that MDLMS pays is $1000 to win and $200 to start. I think that an NCRA sport mod race in Enid would be good to. Last year, enid would pull in 20-25+ cars to race on a regular night, with out the other guys that run the NCRA series. That pay is only $500 to win, don't know what the start pay is, probably around $75-100. Those to series would be good to have for the money. I think if it is advaertised enough in advance, the crowd will be there too. Enid has had weekly racing for 50+ years, and now that it has been taken away, it has become a huge wake up call. I think the fans will come. By the way Ed, there were 4 cars that ran a MDLMS race last week. Three of those were not at your race in Dodge City.

Ed,

The show in ADA is a Factory Stock race, not a Street Stock race. It is $10,000 to win. Hope this helps your decision. Have a nice day.

Last year OCRS pulled 40 cars to the winter nationals at Enid and I think the purse is about the same as MDLMS. The only difference is that a sprint car teams travel with 5 or 6 people per car.

Might as well be Street stocks, you can run ANY steel head OR block, rules doesn't say anything about cubic inch max, or anything about what type pistons, crank or rods, roller motors? ....Only thing I can see where it wants you to keep it "STOCK" is the $1000.00 engine claim...The engine rule looks pretty cut and dry to me...
