Ok guys, here is my opinion about what has happened to the SS Nationals over the yrs. When this race first came about, there were lots of cars that would fit the rules at the time. Its just like the late models and modifieds, you start opening the rules and soon only the guys with deep pockets will be at your race. Trust me there are a lot more people out there with little money than there are big money teams. I honestly believe that as the street stock rules progressed you started to see a smaller car count. There was a time when a good factory stock could run with a street stock, just by making a few changes, carbs, headers clutch etc.Now the chances of that happening are very slim. I believe if you get the rules down to where your average working guy can afford it,you will turn out a lot more cars.Sorry to ramble, just my thoughts

way2fast you basically summed up racing in the state of Oklahoma for the last 20 years. Someome starts a class for "everyone" to race and soon rules get changed and before you know it no one can afford it.

just my opinion here,

I think most of the payout, in the past, has come from sponsors. Im not bashing anyone nor am I starting an arguement here. I think if someone went around they could get the sponsors for most of the payouts. Oreilly Auto Parts has always been huge to Enid Racing and Im sure that one or more of the casinos would like to hear thier name over the loud speakers.

I understand wat Ed Beckley is saying but I also understand wat Nulfinski is saying... Its a large purse to gamble on but its a heck of a tradition. I really thought last year would be horrible car count and I know for fact it was 75 plus. So I say if its supposed to happen it will, im sure it would only take a few calls and/or visits to have something like "PARADISE CASINOS A FEATURE"...

just my opinion....

I have to agree that the "rules" are far too open. The "Street Stock" cars are more like semi-late or pro-stock. Returning to the original intent of the Nationals race would be great and would give the smaller budget racers and chance to compete. IE: no stroker motors, no weight jacks, 2200 lb minimum with extra for big block cars, must be stock appearing bodies not just the wedge.

It would benefit racing in OK if several tracks got together and agreed to operate under the same rules and classifications. Perhaps adopting IMCA, WISSOTA, NASCAR, or NCRA rules.

I am not saying that they should agree to race on opposing nights, but maybe they could run special races for each class at each track once a month or every other month with an overall points winner getting something extra at the end of the year.

Just my thoughts. Take them as you may.

There is now no Friday night track in Oklahoma City to basically "dictate" what they are going to do as far as rules are concerned for this class (and others) so ALL the other promoters need to get together during the winter on one Saturday and discuss a unified set of rules (affordable and common sense) and each track stick with them. I know alot don't want IMCA sanctioned or anything to do with IMCA but go to the IMCA type rules for this division as they are written and nation wide.

I feel this day and age that track promoters need to get away from "I want my own rules so guys will not be able to race anywhere else but my track" mindset. It is almost getting to the point where drivers don't want to go weekly track points racing but pick and choose where and when they race. There don't have to be a racing series just all promoters working together for a change, that hasn't happened since the 1980's.

Not to be partial but that is why I like our NCRA southern modified (IMCA sport mod) division as the rules are the same and "affordable) (whatever that is) and only the name is changed to protect the innocent.

Some of your promoters who get on here but don't post would like to comment to me about other issues on this or would like to get something setup like this then please email .me.

As far as Enids Street Stock Nationals, it is a tradition that I would like to see stay myself.

I hate to say it but it is getting a little to late in the season now to announce the street stock nationals if we were going to have one.
