Matt Hein. RB-IMAGES.NETMatt Hein takes his NSRA points lead to EphrataTo be quite frank, it was a butt kicking that was going on at Spokane County Raceway back on July 18th. Matt Hein had them covered, easily. He led by a half lap on the big ½-mile asphalt oval with the laps winding down. Figuring he was well ahead with his car running as great as it was, Matt Hein was taking it easy even. Something, however, damaged his left rear tire and it came apart on him, sending him into the wall. Now he’ll try to put behind him the one that got away as he returns to action at Ephrata Raceway Park this weekend.Hein, the defending Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association champion, held a nice 20-point lead over former champion Jeff Montgomery going into the Spokane race. Having already set a new all-time track record in qualifying, Hein was thrilled with the Hein Racing No. 98 Shaver-powered Beast sponsored by Coastline West Insulation, Independent Motor Rebuilders, Tonka Excavation LLC, Long's Building Supply, C&R Striping Company and Oregon Tool & Supply. It did everything he had wanted to do.The cut tire and crash that resulted, combined with Montgomery’s Top 5 finish, cut Hein’s lead to only four tallies unofficially. Matt, however, will be returning to a track where he has done well in the past. The NSRA will make its annual appearance at Ephrata Raceway Park, in eastern Washington, for the annual Rebel Jackson Memorial race.In last year’s Rebel Jackson Memorial, Hein raced from the sixth starting position to finish second to Sierra Jackson. Matt and the rest of the team believe they’re due for a victory at Ephrata Raceway Park, a ¼-mile, high-banked oval where the pavement is old, slick, and hard to grip. Hein has proven he can get around the track, as he set fast time in qualifying too before his second place finish in last year's main event. Two weeks after Saturday’s race at Ephrata, the Hein Racing team will venture to Canada to race in the annual Daffodil Cup race at Western Speedway in Victoria, British Columbia. On August 29th, Matt stays in his hometown of Roseburg, Oregon as the NSRA hits Douglas County Speedway for the annual memorial race for his grandfather Don Hein.At 21 years of age, Matt Hein is one of the top pavement sprint car racers on the west coast, having multiple main event victories to his credit along with the 2008 Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association champion. Matt would like to thank all of his sponsors and fans for their great support.
