Barnes races XXX chassis to Dirt Cup victory On Saturday night, Jayme Barnes of Everett, Washington powered to victory in the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. He brought home the trophy as well as the $25,000 top prize in the LAW Motorsports #33 XXX. Barnes had only recently teamed up with the LAW Motorsports team. Over the past month, Barnes and the team had been fighting motor gremlins which continued into the first night of Dirt Cup. After Jayme finished third in Thursday's preliminary feature they found metal debris in the oil. That made a switch to their older and lower on power backup motor necessary. All day Friday, the team worked on the car. Barnes ran well again that night, leaving him fourth in the overall point standings. Saturday night Barnes finished second in the A-Scramble to earn the outside pole for the 40-lap Dirt Cup main event. Barnes led the first seven laps before Tyler Walker got past him in traffic. Barnes stayed near the front, and with 5 laps to go took the lead again with all three Kaedings (Tim, Bud and Brent) right behind him in their always potent machines. With his car sticking to the high groove on the dusty track better than those chasing him, he wasn't challenged when it counted most. Barnes motored away and crossed the finish line in front of an ecstatic home state crowd.
