AS SUMMER HEATS UP, SO DO XXX DRIVERS
It was another fantastic weekend for the XXX chassis. A number of drivers earned repeat victories, including one who won three straight races. At Placerville Speedway Andy Forsberg got one for the thumb, winning his fifth 360 sprint car feature of the season. Also on Saturday night, Glenn Borden Jr. scored his second straight victory to boost his points lead at Grays Harbor Raceway. Kelsey Carpenter continued his dominance of the sportsman sprints at Skagit Speedway. Colton Heath won his third straight main event in either a 410 sprint car of 600 mini-sprint on Friday night.
Andy Forsberg is having one of the best seasons of his career this year. On Saturday, Forsberg continued his season-long success as he won his fifth main event of the season aboard his No. 92 XXX sprint car. For the fourth time, it was at Placerville Speedway in California. In addition to his Civil War series victory, it was his third win in weekly competition. After setting fast time in qualifying, Forsberg started fourth in the main event and quickly got to the lead. Forsberg was challenged several times, but held the lead every time.
At Grays Harbor Raceway, Glenn Borden Jr. had climbed his way into the points lead in the 360 sprint car division by the end of May despite not winning a race yet. That first changed last week when he won his first race of the season to give his points lead a boost. On Saturday, Borden further extended his points lead when he won at Grays Harbor Raceway for the second straight week. Borden quickly made his way up to the front of the field on a racy track and made quick work of rookie Logan Forler to take the lead. Borden, a former track champion at Grays Harbor with a XXX chassis in 2007, then had to deal with heavy traffic while reigning track champ Jay Cole challenged him for the lead on a couple of occasions. Borden, however, skillfully worked his way around the slower cars and secured another big victory in his No. 72.
Triple X Race Co.'s own Kelsey Carpenter continued his dominance of Skagit Speedway's sportsman sprint division aboard his No. 27c XXX. After winning his heat race, Carpenter would go on to lead 20 laps of the main event. For the defending track champion and current points leader, it was his fourth main event triumph of the season. It also continued the XXX sprint car chassis' win streak at Skagit. Every week Skagit Speedway has raced, at least one main event has been won by a driver in a XXX sprint car.
All season, Carpenter's XXX co-worker Colton Heath had close calls in both his No. 5x XXX sprint car and his No. 2 XXX mini-sprint. He finally broke through the prior weekend, winning the 600 stock mini-sprint feature at Deming Speedway on the Friday night, and then repeated the next night at Skagit Speedway with his 410 sprint car. This weekend saw Colton back those wins up with another 600 stock mini-sprint main event victory at Deming Speedway on Friday, the third straight time he strapped into a XXX chassis and won a main event. He did not have the same success at Skagit as the week before, but on Saturday Colton came up from the 10th starting position to finish a very strong 2nd in the Dirt Cup tune-up race, which saw several out of towners come a week early to prepare for this week's 38th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.
Triple X Race Co. would like to congratulate everyone who won in their XXX chassis this weekend!
