Mitch Olson bounces back, takes fourth in Skagit 410’sThe last couple of weeks weren’t too kind to Mitch Olson as a bunch of bad luck generated bad finishes. On Saturday night, Olson turned his luck around drove to a strong fourth place finish at Skagit Speedway in Round 8 of the track’s Foothills Toyota Tundra Racing Series.Driving the Mike Olson No. 98m Shark-powered KPC sponsored by SC Fuels, Olson Bros. Excavating, Pro Vac, PRS Group and PMI Truck Bodies & Powder Coating, Mitch drove his 410-powered sprint car to quick time in qualifying with a lap of 12.014 seconds around the 3/10-mile, high-banked clay oval. Olson finished fourth in the evening’s first race to secure his place in the main event.Olson started the 25-lap main event outside the second row. Olson drifted back to eighth place by the time Lap 10 had rolled around, but Mitch kept things steady from there. He moved up two positions to sixth place on Lap 17 and on Lap 22 moved up to fifth place when Jayme Barnes dropped out. With two laps left Olson moved up to finish in fourth place. It was on his last lap that he drove his fastest lap of the race, a time of 12.510 seconds. Mitch is next scheduled to race this Saturday back at Skagit Speedway in the Dirt Cup Tune-Up race. Then on the following week at Skagit it’s the 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by Van’s Equipment on Thursday through Saturday, June 18th, 19th and 20th. Olson gave a good performance at last year’s Dirt Cup. He made the A-Main all three nights, including finishing sixth in the 40-lap finale on Saturday. This year’s Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup will pay a total purse of $150,000, including $25,000 to the winner of the Dirt Cup Race of Champions on Saturday.Over the last few years, Mitch Olson has established himself as one of the top sprint car racers in the Pacific Northwest, having main event victories at Skagit Speedway and Grays Harbor Raceway and several more Top 5 and Top 10 finishes elsewhere on the west coast to his credit.
