Jordan Frontz's first win comes in XXX chassis

On May 23rd, a XXX sprint car driver's dream became a reality. Jordan Frontz was the winner of a main event at Port Royal Speedway. The 23-year-old Frontz, out of Mifflintown, took the checkered flag in the 358 sprint car feature at the speed plant in the sprint car hot bed that is Pennsylvania. It doesn't matter what division it is, winning a sprint car race in Pennsylvania is no easy task and Frontz pulled it off in his No. 19 XXX sprint car. The race at his "hometown" track was actually a rare appearance as he usually races his 358 sprint car at Selinsgrove Speedway.

It was a special win for Frontz as he grew up going to races at Port Royal, which was only ten minutes from where he lives. His father was a push truck driver at the same track for 25 years. When Frontz got into 358 sprint car racing, he had to race at Selinsgrove mostly as Port Royal does not have a regular 358 program. So when Port Royal's 410 sprint cars were out of town for the Keystone Cup and brought in the 358's on May 23rd, Frontz jumped at the opportunity to race at the track he grew up going to.

The XXX sprint car Frontz drives was only two races old when he got it, and he has liked it ever since, saying it works great and there "hasn't been one night where the car hasn't gone forward." At Port Royal, Frontz and his team ran with the same setup they usually ran with at Selinsgrove, and it paid off.

Frontz ran second in the 25-lap feature to Jay Reichard until catching him with 16 laps complete. Frontz passed Reichard on the back stretch motored away from there, leading the last nine laps by running on the cushion on the big 1/2-mile, slightly-banked clay oval. Frontz would win by about almost a full straightaway. Upon reaching victory lane, Frontz got out of his car and with his helmet on still he promptly climbed on top of his big wing and performed the popular "wing dance" with the checkered flag.

Jordan is a fan of the 1/2-miles, which are common throughout Pennsylvania. He was the Path Valley Speedway Rookie of the Year in 600 micro-sprints in 2004. In 2006, he moved into 358 sprint cars and that season he was the Rookie of the Year at Selinsgrove Speedway. He eaned his first fast time award at last year's Joe Whitcomb Memorial. His team, a 1 car / 1 motor operation, is primarily sponsored by his brother John's business, Frontz Hardwood Flooring.
