Broers scores first victory, Carpenter repeats in XXX chassis

Triple X Race Co. continued its strong early season performance this weekend as drivers picked up victories in Washington and Kansas, including one driver who scored his first career sprint car victory.

It was an all XXX battle in Saturday’s 360 sprint car main event at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington. Shane Broers and Mack Brown, two youngsters looking for their first win, duked it out in front of the fans on the last lap. Brown pulled up side by side with Broers as they raced down the backstretch and made contact with each other, but it was the 19-year-old Broers who reemerged as the leader out of turn four and scored his first career sprint car main event win aboard his XXX sprint car. Brown had suffered a flat tire on his machine coming around turns three and four, ruining his bid at a first victory, but still came across the line in second place. Long time veteran Rod Perkins finished third in his XXX car to make it an all XXX podium at Skagit Speedway. Former track champion Brock Lemley also finished fourth in the same event for Triple X.

At the same track, Triple X Race Co.’s own Kelsey Carpenter continued the defense of his track championship as he won his second sportsman sprint car main event in as many weeks in his XXX sprint car. Carpenter also won his heat race earlier in the evening.

In Kansas, Darren Stewart took his XXX sprint car to victory lane Saturday at the Jetmore Motorplex. Stewart was driving a XXX sprint car owned by Butch Roberts.

Also a winner a week earlier was 49-year-old Bill Kraylek, who won on Fremont Speedway’s opening night in the 305 sprint car division, and Kraylek led almost the entire race in the process, hugging the bottom of the track the whole way around as he is known to do.

Daron Clayton made the run of the night with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana. Starting at the back of the 24-car field in his XXX entry, the “Modern Day Cowboy” drove all the way up to finish 10th, earning the KSE Hard Charger Award for the night.
