Mitch Olson kicks off ‘09 season against Outlaws at Chico ALK Promotions, March 12 Friday night, Puyallup, Wash. driver Mitch Olson will kick off his 2009 season against the best in world in world and away from home.
Mitch, who will again be piloting the Mike Olson No. 98m Shark-powered KPC sponsored by SC Fuels, Olson Bros. Excavating, Pro-Vac and PRS Group, will throw the 410ci motor under the hood right off the bat and compete against the world famous World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series with weekend at the Mini-Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. The Mini-Gold Cup, sanctioned as a World of Outlaws event for the first time since 1992, often marks the unofficial start of the racing season in Northern California. With the weather still being mostly cold and often wet up in Washington this time of year, there have always been a number of sprint car drivers from the Pacific Northwest who have made the trip south to get in some racing. Olson will be among those drivers this year. The track Olson will race on is a racy, competitive ¼-mile, high-banked clay oval that often sees some of the best racing on the west coast. Every September, Silver Dollar Speedway hosts the Gold Cup Race of Champions, one of the top sprint car events in the country. That has also been a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event over the years. Olson has had much success over the past few years. After winning two races and finishing second in the Northwest Sprint Challenge Series point standings in 2007, the 2008 season saw Mitch score several top five finishes at Skagit Speedway and Grays Harbor Raceway in both 410 and 360 sprint cars. Olson also made a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series main event at Skagit Speedway in August, making the dash that same night as well. Mitch also competed in Skagit Speedway’s two premier sprint car events last year. In June’s Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup, featuring 410 sprint cars, Olson finished sixth in the A-Main event, his best career Dirt Cup finish. In August’s Skagit 360 Nationals, he made the main event again and finished third for the second consecutive year. Over the last few years, Mitch Olson has established himself as one of the top sprint car drivers in the Pacific Northwest, with victories at Skagit and Grays Harbor Raceway to his credit, along with numerous top-five efforts at other tracks in Oregon. Olson is looking for experienced people, preferably living in Washington’s Pierce County, who may be interested in joining the No. 98m team for 2009. Mitch and Mike Olson would like to thank their sponsors SC Fuels, Olson Bros. Excavating, PRS Group and Pro-Vac for their help in the 2008 season. The rest of their plans for 2009 will be announced soon and a website for Mitch is also in the works. - - - Mitch Olson’s sponsors SC Fuels Olson Bros. Excavating PRS Group Pro-Vac
