Andy Forsberg takes Marysville sprint car opener for XXX
Andy Forsberg is used to winning races, just not on opening night. That changed Saturday when the reigning Silver Dollar Speedway 410 sprint car champion and former Civil War Series champion brought his Triple X sprint car out for the first time in 2009 and got himself and Triple X Race Components INC the victory in the first event of the Northern California sprint car season, with Marysville Raceway Park being the venue.
Despite some weather during the week leading up to the event, Marysville Raceway Park officials got the clay surface ready for some sprint car action. Forsberg took the lead on the initial green flag start and had to hold off Herman Klein and former track champion Korey Lovell in the early going. After a number of race stoppages, Forsberg’s XXX car had to contend with traffic during a lengthy green flag run.
Lovell dropped back a bit as Tommy Tarlton came into the mix up front, but Forsberg stayed up front. World of Outlaws star Jason Sides was at Marysville Raceway Park also and he soon found himself in second place behind Forsberg. With the Outlaw star breathing down his neck, Forsberg maintained his lead as they went through traffic.
On a final restart Forsberg’s XXX got an excellent start and Sides could not catch him. Forsberg would score the victory at Marysville for Triple X Race Co.
