Mark Dobmeier to pilot M&S car at Trophy Cup
Press Release Submitted by andrewkunas on 10/16/2008 at 1:27 AM Send To Friend | Report Press Release

An update on this story. I've learned that this is a big joint venture between Mike Anderson and longtime sprint car crew chief Ben Curtis, who was chief wrench on the car when Wayne Johnson drove the car in the Brownfield Memorial at Elma with Brady Dart also helping out. Speedmart Inc., owned by Curtis and Shawna Wilskey, is a new big sponsor for M&S Motorsports for the Trophy Cup. Also, instead of the Eagle chassis, a brand new Rocket is being tried out.

Mark Dobmeier to pilot M&S Motorsports car at Trophy Cup
ALK Promotions, October 15

Mike & Shaylen Motorsports is pleased to announce that Grand Forks, North Dakota driver Mark Dobmeier will pilot the No. 18 Shark-powered Eagle at next week’s Trophy Cup event at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.

Australian driver Brooke Tatnell was originally scheduled to drive the car, but after Craig Dollansky’s injury at Eldora Speedway in September, Tatnell was hired to fill in for Dollansky for the remainder of the Advanced Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series 30th Anniversary season. On October 25, they will make-up a previously rained out race at Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas, temporarily leaving M&S owner Mike Anderson without a driver for the Trophy Cup.

Anderson, who had former ASCS National champion and two-time Knoxville 360 Nationals winner Wayne Johnson drive his car to a third place finish in last month’s Fred Brownfield Memorial Sprint Challenge at Grays Harbor Raceway in Washington, was excited when Dobmeier then agreed to drive the car at Trophy Cup.

Dobmeier is this year’s 410 sprint car track champion at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota and picked up the annual Cheater’s Day race at that track. He also won three races en route to third place points finish at legendary Knoxville Raceway in Iowa and took fifth in points at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Dobmeier was the River Cities Speedway champion for five straight years and finished only 61 points out of first place this year despite missing a couple of races there.

Mark also has two Northern Outlaw Sprint Association titles to his credit. Dobmeier then got a big feather in his cap when he won a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Wilmot Speedway in Wisconsin in 2006. A winner of over a hundred main events in the United States, Dobmeier also has a pair of victories Down Under in Australia.

The M&S Motorsports No 18 car, sponsored by SignMart, Anderson Power Washing, Burlington Collision, Tri-County Truss and Heavy D, has been on of the west coast’s most recognized cars, with track championships at Skagit Speedway being won in 2006 and 2007 by Steve Kilcup. In 2008, M&S cars were also piloted by Johnson, Toni Lutar and Seth Bergman. Bergman, driving the M&S car, won his first career 410 sprint car main event in August at Skagit.

The 15th Annual Trophy Cup, which benefits the Greater Bay Area chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, is one of the top paying 360 sprint car races in the country and one of the most prestigious, with a purse of a solid $112,500. It will be run next Thursday through Saturday, October 23, 24 and 25.
