Hillier takes 11th at Cottage Grove
ALK Promotions, September 4After a few sub-par performances, Chad Hillier bounced back on Tuesday night with an 11th place finish in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Cottage Grove Speedway.Driving the DIRT Inc. No. 5c Maxim sponsored by Jansma Construction, Wink Dog Motorsports and Fast Wings, Hillier started the evening by posting a time of 10.564 seconds around the ¼-mile, high-banked clay oval, good enough for 12th fastest out of 37 entries. Chad took advantage of qualifying early as the track dried and slowed down quickly after he went out. Of the latter half of the qualifying order, the fastest anyone drove was between 15th and 20th quick. In the evening’s fourth heat race Hillier finished fourth to transfer to the 40-lap A-Feature event, where Chad would start 16th.The main event saw the cars mostly hug the bottom of the dry track and few went high. Passing was minimal, which is not the norm at the usually racy Cottage Grove Speedway. Hillier, however, was able to move forward a little bit and finish a respectable 11th, earning $1,500 for his efforts.With Tony Bruce Jr. missing the A-Feature for the third time in four races, Hillier has moved closer to Bruce in the standings. Hillier, 16th in points, currently sits 47 tallies behind Bruce.Chad next races this weekend in the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif. in the Gold Cup Race of Champions. Hillier finished tenth in the B-Main in last year‘s Gold Cup. It was hardly a bad night as there were over a hundred cars, which made a F-Main necessary.
