Hillier has rough time at Skagit
ALK Promotions, September 1

Chad Hillier’s homecoming to Washington didn’t turn out as planned. He made the A-Feature both nights at Skagit Speedway in Alger, but he was hoping for better results in Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series competition.

Driving the DIRT Inc. No. 5c Maxim sponsored by Jansma Construction, Wink Dog Motorsports and Fast Wings, Hillier was forced to wait a day to race on the track where he was a many-time champion as rainfall postponed the event on Friday. One of the hazards of racing in Washington, rainfall.

On Saturday, he qualified 21st quickest with a time of 11.741 seconds around the 3/10-mile, high-banked clay oval. In the first heat race, things didn’t go very well as Chad finished ninth and was forced to race in the B-Main.

Hillier ended up winning that 12-lap B-Main to transfer to the 30-lap A-Feature event, while Chad Kemenah and 20-time series champion Steve Kinser himself were forced to use provisionals to get in. Hillier’s night came to a disappointing end in that A-Feature event as he tangled with another car and crashed out, finishing 26th.

Sunday went a bit better for Hillier, who started the night qualifying 19th quickest with a time of 11.680 seconds. In the third heat race, Hillier took the fifth and final transfer position to get into the night’s 40-lap A-Feature finale. With 25 cars starting on the small track, the leaders found themselves in traffic fairly quickly. Starting towards the back, Hillier found it tough to move forward with the lead cars coming up on him so quickly. He rode around to a 21st place finish.

Hillier remains 16th in points, but with Tony Bruce Jr. missing the A-Feature on Saturday, Hillier closed in on Bruce for the 15th position. This weekend, Chad will compete at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif. as the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions is run.

DIRT Inc. is currently seeking companies that are interested in advertising and being part of the team as they race across the nation, coast to coast, and onto your television screen. Interested parties can contact Team Owner Dave DeWitt at [email protected], 425-308-8658, or 19916 Old Owen Road, #100, Monroe, WA 98272.
