Van Dam 7th at Elma, moves up ASCS Northwest standings
ALK Promotions, September 1

When Henry Van Dam last raced with the ASCS Northwest Region, it was a forgettable Northwest Speed Week, though he did end it on a high note with a 12th place run out of the B-Main at Grays Harbor Raceway. However, he fell from second to 11th in points.

Over the last month, however, Van Dam has had several good runs to get his season back on track, and even though he is the long shot, Van Dam’s in the hunt for a track championship at Grays Harbor. For one night, his title chase was on hold as the ASCS Northwest Region returned to action on Sunday night.

Van Dam, driving the Van Dam Racing No. 33v Shark-powered Maxim sponsored by Van Dam Dairy, Corliss Resources, Rich Van Dam Dairy, Shareway Industries and GMS Metal Works was one of 29 drivers who competed on Sunday. He ended up racing in the fourth heat race and finished fourth behind Seth Bergman, ex-World of Outlaws star Danny Lasoski and Jay Cole. Van Dam’s point score was just good enough to get him into the A-Main event.

Starting 16th Van Dam did what he’s good at when need be, pass cars. Van Dam drove his way to a strong seventh place finish. It was good enough to bump him up three positions in the point standings. Van Dam is now eighth in the ASCS Northwest Region points and with four races remaining he still has a shot at the top five.

Next for Van Dam is the season championships at Grays Harbor Raceway. Henry is fourth in points, but in a tight race he is only 18 points behind leader Glenn Borden Jr. with Jay Cole and Shawn Rice in between them. Two weeks later Van Dam will take part in ASCS Northwest Region action again when the 2nd Annual Fred Brownfield Memorial Sprint Challenge is held at Grays Harbor on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20.

Henry Van Dam, 26, is one of the up and coming sprint car racers in the Pacific Northwest and one of the most popular. Van Dam has wins at both Skagit Speedway and Grays Harbor Raceway to his credit and also has a victory with the old Northern Sprint Tour in 2006. Henry has run at both Washington dirt sprint car tracks several times and has also run with the ASCS Northwest Region this season.
