Excitement Builds for Saturday’s Scott Thompson Memorial Event at Volusia Speedway
BARBERVILLE, FL – July 17, 2008 —
Proclaimed the biggest Dirt Late Model event of the 2008 season, the Daytona Dodge Chrysler - Scott Thompson Memorial event at Volusia Speedway is now only 2 days away. Excitement is running high as the list of Late Model drivers planning to be in attendance continues to grow for Saturday’s history-making event.
The combined effort of the National Late Model Series, United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series and Volusia Speedway promises a night of racing action that will keep fans on the edge of their seats and more. “This is the first time the two series have joined forces to develop an event of this magnitude and we cannot be more pleased that Volusia Speedway is the venue,” shares VSP General Manager, Tonya Moschell.
When Volusia Speedway honors the memory of the late Scott Thompson and the continued support of the Thompson family on July 19, fans and racers will be part of a truly memorable evening of racing. $3800 awaits the winner of the 50 lap Daytona Dodge Chrysler Star-Studded Southern Late Model Shoot-Out – Scott Thompson Memorial Race. The leader of lap 38 takes home a bonus of $380. Contingency awards from the UDLMCS include a Hard Charger award, Hard Luck award, Rookie of the Race, and Fastest Qualifier. A “Just One More” award will be presented by Taylor Racing Products. More special bonuses are coming available for the Late Model racers participating in the Scott Thompson Memorial Event.
The event kicks off with an open practice at Volusia Speedway on Friday, July 18 from 6:00 to 9:30 PM. Pit admission will be $15.00 and grandstand admission will be free on Friday night. Gates will open at 5:00 for practice.
On Saturday, July 19, pit gates open at 4:00 and the main gates will open at 5:00 for the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Star-Studded Southern Late Model Shoot-Out – Scott Thompson Memorial Race. Time trial qualifying for the Late Models will take place at 7:15 followed immediately by the remainder of the racing program. UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, RBC Bank Mini-Stocks and Aerotec Aluminum 4-Cylinder Pure Stock divisions will round out the evening racing program.
Adult General Admission on Saturday, July 19 will be $15. Drive-In Parking is $10. Admission for students ages 11 to 15 is $7. Kids 10 and under will be admitted free. Pit passes are $25. UMP DIRTcar Members pay $22 for pit entry.
