Held takes eighth in Northwest Speed Week opener
ALK Promotions, July 15

WHITE CITY, Ore. - Rob Held had a less than stellar start to his night on Monday. Things still turned out OK in the end.

The Sutherlin, Ore. driver, piloting the Rob Held Racing No. 68 J&J sponsored by John Carroll Construction, Double R Powder Coating, Powell Plastering, FK Rod Ends, Ringer Gloves and Bell Helmets, drove his way to an eighth place finish in the opening race of the ASCS Northwest Region’s Speed Week at Southern Oregon Speedway near Medford.

Held, who entered the night tied for fourth in the ASCS Northwest Region point standings, was to start on the front row of his heat race, only to be sent back to the rear of the field due to alleged false starts. Held missed the top 16 in points and was forced to run in the first B-Main. He won that race to transfer to the 30-lap A-Main event, where he started in the ninth row.

Held advanced ten positions to finish eighth in the feature, which was won by California standout Jonathan Allard. Last month, Held finished second at Southern Oregon Speedway in weekly 360 sprint car competition, giving him a pair of strong top-ten outings this season at the 1/3-mile speed plant in White City.

Rob and the rest of the drivers in the ASCS Northwest Region will continue Northwest Speed Week tonight at Cottage Grove Speedway, where Held has won in the past. Speed Week continues Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon and Thursday at Sunset Speedway Park in Banks, Ore. Held has never seen Sunset Speedway Park, let alone raced on it before. Northwest Speed Week will close on Friday and Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash. with the Evergreen State Sprint Challenge.

Rob Held, 26, is one of the up and coming sprint car racers in the Pacific Northwest and is looking for additional sponsorship for Northwest Speed Week and the rest of the season. More information on Rob can be found online at
