Ocala Speedway Announces Rules Change For Late Models
by BJ Cavin
During the driver's meeting on June 20th, the move to adopt United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series rules for the late model division at Ocala Speedway was discussed. At that time, speedway owner Mike Peters suggested the change, citing the opportunity it created for more cars and drivers to be competitive at Ocala Speedway.
Although there were no complaints voiced at the driver's meeting about the rules change, Peters felt that the drivers should have an opportunity to ask questions or voice opinions in private, so he told the assembled drivers to contact him throughout the week as to their feelings on the matter. By offering a chance for a private discussion with each driver, Peters hoped that drivers would be open and honest rather than feel pressure to go along with the supposed majority. The drivers have now had over two weeks to make their opinions known, and Mike Peters has adopted UDLMCS rules for the late models, effective this Friday, July 11th, per the discussions in the June 20th meeting.
The rules change will be outlined more completely during the late model drivers meeting on July 11th. Any late model division racers with comments or questions are invited to contact Ocala Speedway at 352-622-9400.
