Patrick Williams to Pilot the #38 Scott Thompson Car on July 19.

BARBERVILLE, FL – July 10, 2008 —

The biggest Dirt Late Model event of the season is only 9 days away. This means 9 days left for Patrick Williams to plan his strategy for the history-making Scott Thompson Memorial event.

Patrick Williams will be behind the wheel of the #38 Scott Thompson Late Model. “This is a big deal,” shares Patrick, “it has been such an honor driving for Bill Thompson and the whole Thompson family. Scott’s Mom still comes to all the races.”

When Volusia Speedway honors the memory of the late Scott Thompson and the continued support of the Thompson family on July 19, Patrick will be working hard to put the #38 car in Victory Lane. “It would be great to win, but that’s a pretty tall order with all the talent that will be there,” states Patrick. Perhaps not as tall an order as Patrick lets on – he has already put the #38 Thompson car in Victory Lane at Volusia Speedway this year on May 17. “That was so emotional for everyone, especially the Thompson’s,” Patrick tells.

When asked what fans can expect on July 19, Patrick simply states, “They’ll get to see plenty.”

$3800 goes to the winner of the 50 lap Daytona Dodge Chrysler Star-Studded Southern Late Model Shoot-Out – Scott Thompson Memorial Race. The star-studded race is a joint effort by the National Late Model Series, the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series and Volusia Speedway Park. The leader of lap 38 takes home a bonus of $380. Contingency awards from the UDLMCS include a Hard Charger award, Hard Luck award, Rookie of the Race, and Fastest Qualifier. A “Just One More” award will be presented by Taylor Racing Products. Many more bonuses are coming available for the Late Model racers participating in the Scott Thompson Memorial Event.

The event kicks off with an open practice at Volusia Speedway on Friday, July 18 from 6 to 9:30 PM. Pit admission will be $15.00 and grandstand admission will be free on Friday night. Gates will open at 5:00 for practice.

Pit gates open at 4 and the main gates will open at 5:00 for the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Star-Studded Southern Late Model Shoot-Out – Scott Thompson Memorial Race on Saturday, July 19. Time trial qualifying for the Late Models will take place at 7:15 followed immediately by the remainder of the racing program. UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, RBC Bank Mini-Stocks and Aerotec Aluminum 4-Cylinder divisions will round out the evening racing program.

Adult General Admission on Saturday, July 19 will be $15. Drive-In Parking is $10. Admission for students ages 11 to 15 is $7. Kids 10 and under will be admitted free. Pit passes are $25. UMP DIRTcar Members pay $22 for pit entry.

Volusia Speedway Park is located 15 miles west of Ormond Beach, FL on State Road 40. Additional information and updates will be available on the website – http://www.volusiaspeedwaypark.com, or call 386-985-4402.
